Namaste all,

I just returned after spending a year living in West Bengal. Basically I went

as a holy pilgrammage to visit sites sacred to Mother Kali (amar ishta) and

also for studying music which I have been doing for years.

I collected many iconic images while I was there and 1 particularly striking

form of Devi which is Mangal Chandi.

Anybody know anything about her???

Thanks

You can email me any time at swastik108

I don't want to tie up this list with our discussion- But I can tell you all

about my trip, various temples to see and things like that...

Most of my initial period was spent in Calcutta, studying Bangla and

preparing myself for travels to the villages. I know of some very interesting

festivals to see if you're in West Bengal.

I just started posting pictures from my journey at my Art Conspiracy site.

You can see them here:

http://www.artconspiracy.com/conspiracy_user.asp?id=2144112310

Be warned! Some of my art and humor is rather dark and may seem offensive!

that's just my personality though ;-)

You can find lots of neat photos of Tantriks, cremation grounds, Bauls, the

Manosha Ma festival etc etc. I am slowly putting them up for display. I also

have photos of various Kali temples which will be up soon.

I spent a lot of time working with Bauls and learning folk music as well as

Tabla.

As far as Pujas go.......I didn't learn any specific rituals, but I

befirended many Tantriks and next time I go I will take Diksha and begin the

road to

learning Tanrik Sadhana. It's a very big deal and will be a major step in my

life, so I didn't want to rush anything.

I am an Indian music fanatic! I really love both Hindustani and Carnatic

music as well as Bengali folk songs... For me music and devotion are one. If

anyone is interested in that I would love to discuss sometime.

Next time I visit Bengal I plan to stay for a few years- I loved it so much,

it's my spiritual home!

My number #1 reason for going is that I had a vision of Kali some years back,

before I new anything about Hindu religion. She is my lifes inspiration and I

dedicate everything I do to her. My life itself is an offering to Ma.

I don't know much about Mangal Chandi, but am enamoured by her image- so I

thought I would write and ask about her.

Jay Ma!

Swastik

There is a Mangala Chandi Stotra in Brahma-vaivarta purana(either in

Ganapati Khanda or Prakriti khanda). There might a small description

about Her before or after this stotra in this purana.

As far as my knowledge Maa Mangal Chandi is another form of Goddess Durga. She is worshipped specially on tuesdays.I have been worshipping Maa Mangal Chandi for 10 years now. If you start praying to her, that is the best way to know her. My life has been transformed in a positive way since i have started to worship her,she has taken care of my worries and has put my life in the right track...

Jai maa, May god bless you...
