When Srila Prabhupada said "our preaching will have no effect", that overtly includes even HIMSELF!

Srila Prabhupada said that without his books OUR (his) preaching will have NO EFFECT!

Without the books, even Srila Prabhupada's preaching would have had NO EFFECT!

That is what he said in that statement as he said "OUR preaching will have no effect".

So, Srila Prabhupada seemed to be saying time and time again that the BOOKS are the real basis of the movement, even more important than the living guru concept.

Without the books, a living guru "WILL HAVE NO EFFECT".

That is the teachings of Srila Prabhupada.

This is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. :smash::( THis is nothing better than an impersonalilst who interprets 'I' in Bhagavad Gita refering not to Krishna but to the impersonal Brahman.

This kind of understanding comes from misinterpreting Srila Prabhupada as a conditioned soul. You are not able to recognise Srila Prabhupada as a liberated soul. This lack of complete faith in Srila Prabhupada is the main reason for today's GBC guru system. When you think Srila Prabhupada is just one among 100, this kind of interpretation would arise. Ask a Sri Vaishnavite about the position of Sripada Ramanuja Acarya, or ask a Madava about the position of Sri Madhvacharya. Do they say, '

Without the books, even Srila Ramanuja's preaching would have had NO EFFECT!'. How funny! this show there is no basic faith on the Srila Prabhupada.

This kind of people will go behind some bogus guru and will result in his fall and they keep trotting from one guru to another. You get what you deserve. :smash: Kindly refrain from such offensive posts. Save yourself by sweet surrender to Srila Prabhupada.

"Humility; pridelessness; nonviolence; tolerance; simplicity; approaching a bona fide spiritual master; cleanliness; steadiness; self-control; renunciation of the objects of sense gratification; absence of false ego; the perception of the evil of birth, death, old age and disease; detachment; freedom from entanglement with children, wife, home and the rest; even-mindedness amid pleasant and unpleasant events; constant and unalloyed devotion to Me; aspiring to live in a solitary place; detachment from the general mass of people; accepting the importance of self-realization; and philosophical search for the Absolute Truth—all these I declare to be knowledge, and besides this whatever there may be is ignorance." <TABLE class="Panel SearchResultsPanel" width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD class=Content>

Here Krishna declares Non-Voilence as Knowledge. The actual injunction is to eat food that can be acquired with least voilence. Man cannot survive on lifeless stones. Every living organism feeds on another living organism. This is a cycle. As rational human beings with thirst to acquire knowledge one should strive to be as non-voilent as possible. Hence one chooses fruits, vegetables, grains and milk products.

Ifnfact even these food stuffs would result in bad karma to a certain extant as its sources are also living entities. Hence one offers his food stuffs to Lord Krishna and accept His remnants. The food remnants of the Lord is called prasad. Prasad is spritualised food neccesary for one's spiritual growth.

One may ask why not do the same with meat?

It is not possible because in Bhagavad Gita Krishna says

    patram puspam phalam toyam

    yo me bhaktya prayacchati

    tad aham bhakty-upahrtam

    asnami prayatatmanah

"If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it." Bhagavad Gita 9.26

Hence one should offer vegetarian food to Krishna and thereby eat only prasad.

    More over Srila Prabhupada says,

'Nonviolence is generally taken to mean not killing or destroying the body, but actually nonviolence means not to put others into distress. People in general are trapped by ignorance in the material concept of life, and they perpetually suffer material pains. So unless one elevates people to spiritual knowledge, one is practicing violence. ' BG Texts 8-12 Purport

Since we are what we eat we should eat prasad and become non- voilent. Preach devotional service to all and become non-voilent in the true sense.

  3. The first step towards it could be to invite the guests to register. If interested we can review their profile. Or else its like a kind of voice from no where. More often we have a tendency to take the points made by the registered members seriously.

  4. Name one person in Sri sampradhaya who wants to change the books written by Sripada Ramanujacarya. There is a pastime of Sri Guruvayoor Appan in Kerala in this regard .

A guru had a foolish diciple who could not understand anything from the scriptures. The Guru tried to explain to him the topics about God which as usual he did not make much sense to the him. Ultimately Guru got frustrated and said that God looks like a bull. Next day when the diciple went to take dharshan of Sri Guruvayoor appan, He showed Himself as a bull.

Every morning and evening the Lord comes out of the altar to go on parikram inside the temple. That day the pujaris could not bring the small prarikram deity out of the deity room. Then this foolish diciple pointed out that the Lord needs to be carried sideways because His horns are too wide to pass through the door. THis pastime shows that faith inthe words of the Guru is Supreme. Even if it apprears wrong to our mundane intelligence it carries spiritual potency.

    uktas tatha bhavyata eva sadbhih

kintu prabhor yah priya eva tasya

    The

spiritual master is to be honoured as much as the Supreme Lord, because he is the most confidential servitor of the Lord. This is acknowledged in all revealed scriptures and followed by all authorities. Therefore I offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of such a spiritual master, who is a bona fide representative of Sri Hari [Krishna].

So where is the question of speculation.:smash:

  5. Fasting is good but we should know when to fast. Fasting according to our own whims and fancies is in the mode of passion which is nothing but inflicting suffering to the body. This is a sin.

The sriptures guide us in carrying out proper fasting. It is recommended that one should fast on Ekadasi days. This day comes twice every month. Refer to Vaishnava calandar of your area for details of the dates. Ekadasi is glorified as most auspicious day of the month. The primary goal of this day is to increase one's devotional service. In order to do it, one cuts down on the time one spends on his food and other activities. One tries to devote the entire day in service to Krishna. By fasting according to our own body capacity a kind of mellow may be felt which is conducive for experiencing devotional bliss.

  6. If you refer to third canto part one of Srimad Bhagavatham translated by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada, you will get an idea of creation on the whole. I was amazed at the information available there. For example in modern belief we are made to believe that we are born with a sense organ like for example eyes, hence we can see: where as the scripture says that Krishna first created the sense of seeing, then the appropriate organ for conducting the function was created.

This understanding is, the other way around. You can try reading it. It may be helpful to know the fundamental concept of creation. :)

  7. Thanks for all your replys. Inspite of all speculations it is an interesting novel. Thanks to Srila Prabhupada. He worte all his teachings in his books. If not, we would also be speculating like them. As long as our books are not changed we have hope. After all Srila Prabhupada's books are the lawbooks for next ten thousand years. BETTER NOT PLAY WITH HIS BOOKS:smash:

  8. True. One can never be without desires. Mind needs activities. This is natural. Hence the scripture recommends us to use the same mind and its desires in devotional service. Eating may be a favorite activity of a person. By eating food offered to Krishna, the eating desire is purified. He may still eat whatever he wants and yet not suffer its consequences.

  9. We are spirit souls, part and parcel of God.

Right now by some misfortune we are separated from God. Hence we are suffering with our bad as well as good karma.

We should take up devotional path by chanting the holy name of God and try to go back to Him.

Otherwise we will be pushed by our desires and earn bad karma.
