(Your subject) In some exceptional cases Universities may issue Doctorates basing on their experience in their fields. For example - Famous Indian Astrologer Sri B.V. Raman was awarded Doctrate by Pythogorean Univercity in 1947 like wise other universities also awarded him with honarary doctorates as he has done a lot of Research in Astrology.
