  1. Interesting stuff: "Ben Kingsley's birth name is Krishna Banji." (http://film.guardian.co.uk/Column/0,4541,426593,00.html) "Ben Kingsley's paternal family was from the Indian state of Gujarat, the same state Mahatma Gandhi was from." (http://us.imdb.com/Bio?Kingsley,%20Ben)
  2. "New York Times on the Kucinich Campaign for President" (http://www.organicconsumers.org/corp/kucinich042403.cfm): "...he introduced his own cornerstones: "polka, bowling and kielbasa" (though he is in fact a longtime vegetarian)."
  3. From "UFO Roundup" (http://www.ufoinfo.com/roundup/v08/rnd0817.shtml): The Russian Navy has reportedly recovered a large triangular UFO, which crashed in Kaliningrad harbor after overflying a naval base. The crash caused minor damage to a Russian destroyer of the Sovremenny class. According to ufologist James L. Choron, "an unidentified flying object has crashed at Kaliningrad," a seaport on the Baltic Sea, about 650 kilometers (390 miles) east of Moscow. "The story is being released gradually, as it was witnessed by the entire Baltic Fleet and most of the citizens of Kaliningrad. Wreckage is being recovered." "The whole thing was caught on (Russian) television and was broadcast live by a news crew doing a feature on the fleet. The (triangular) craft was seen as a total loss and, as yet, no bodies have been found." The UFO "was overflying the base," which is the home port of Russia's Baltic Fleet. "It is assumed that the fleet radar interfered with the craft's guidance system. It was not, repeat NOT, shot down." "The craft appeared to be of a 'flying wing' design and was absolutely silent. It hit the water at what is described as 'a tremendous speed.' No casualties. High levels of radiation present." The crash reportedly caused "minor damage" to a Sovremenny-class Type 956 heavy destroyer at anchor in the harbor. The Sovremenny is similar to a U.S. Navy Aegis- equipped missile cruiser. The Russian vessel is armed with an onboard anti-submarine helicopter, 48 surface-to- air missiles, 8 ship-to-ship missiles, torpedoes, mines and 12.5-centimeter (5-inch) guns. (Many thanks to James L. Choron and John Hayes for this news story.)
  4. From China's Provinces, a Crafty Germ Spreads By ELISABETH ROSENTHAL SHUNDE, China — An hour south of Guangzhou, the Dongyuan animal market presents endless opportunities for an emerging germ. In hundreds of cramped stalls that stink of blood and guts, wholesale food vendors tend to veritable zoos that will grace Guangdong Province's tables: snakes, chickens, cats, turtles, badgers, frogs. And, in summer, sometimes rats, too. They are all stacked in cages one on top of another — which in turn serve as seats, card tables and dining quarters for the poor migrants who work there. On a recent morning, near stall 17, there were beheaded snakes, disemboweled frogs and feathers flying as a half-alive headless bird was plunked into a basket. If you were a corona virus, like the one that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome, known as SARS, it would be easy to move from animals to humans in the kitchens and food stalls of Guangdong, a province notorious for exotic cuisine prepared with freshly killed beasts. Indeed, preliminary studies of early SARS victims here in Guangdong have found that an unusually high percentage were in the catering profession — a tantalizing clue, perhaps, to how a germ that genetically most resembles chicken and rodent viruses has gained the ability to infect thousands of humans. One of the earliest cases, last December, was a seller of snakes and birds here who died at Shunde's First People's Hospital of severe pneumonia. His wife and a several members of the hospital staff contracted it as well, setting off an outbreak that now sounds eerily familiar. "Oh yes, I heard that a guy here died of that pneumonia," said Li Songyu, a 40-year-old wearing a neat tan blouse, as she filleted live frogs and dumped them into a basket. "But it is very safe and sanitary now." Around the same time in December, Huang Xinchu, a chef, was admitted to the Heyuan People's Hospital, 100 miles to the north, ultimately infecting eight doctors there. On Jan. 2, another desperately ill chef was hospitalized in the city of Zhongshan, south of Shunde, setting off an outbreak. But if such early outbreaks present scientific hints about the origin of SARS, they also provide painful political lessons in how a disease that has spread worldwide could have been prevented.

  6. If the Arabs are not fighting with the Hindus in India or with the Jews in Israel or with the Christians all across the globe, they are fighting with each other: Iraqis vs. Iranians, Iraqis vs. Kuwaitis, Iraqis vs. Kurds, Kurds vs. Turks, Kurds vs. Shiites, Shiites vs. Sunnis, etc., etc.
  7. ...for the warmonger party and put the chickenhawk morons in the whitehouse! Don't give money to low class people because they will simply spend it on sense gratification, and if they are evil, and they have way more money than they need for sense gratification, they will spend it on horrible (chemical and biological) weapons! Also, as long as there are abortion clinics and slaughter houses, there will be war! Those currently in the Whitehouse are merely the pawns of Maya Devi.
  8. I've visited Israel with my wife, and she has been there multiple times, so we do have some feeling for the nature of the Arabs. Here's what my wife has to say about my idea: > I finally figured out why the Muslims are so prone to war: They want to > decrease the number of men so that the remaining men can have multiple > wives! Maybe. The Arabs, who now make up only a minority of Muslims, but are still among the most prone to violence, were a very violent people long before Mohammed converted them. Anyway, they are allowed only four wives regardless. They can have unlimited concubines, but these women cannot be Muslim. So, according to this logic, they would *want* non-Muslim women.
  9. I finally figured out why the Muslims are so prone to war: They want to decrease the number of men so that the remaining men can have multiple wives!
  10. Does anyone know what the GCE's are that George refers to in the song, 'Looking for my Life'? I think that it means "Graduate and Continuing Education". Example: "Advanced GCEs and the courses they lead on to" (http://www.bradford.ac.uk/external/prospectus/ug/table.php).
  11. (http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/bag_balm-a.htm) It's true! It can make skin rashes disappear overnight. Try putting it on a cut or scrape instead of anti-biotic ointment. It'll heal faster and better. I find that healing is also helped along by keeping a band-aid on at night, but leaving it off for part of the day, especially at those times when the band-aid is likely to get wet.

  13. Srila Prabhupada always did this. I've even seen professional athletes do this. It's important that we all get into this habit of common sense cleanliness, especially in front of the deities. If you're clumsy like me, then at least get the kind of bottle that some types of bottled water comes in, the kind that has a spout and a cover for the spout. Then you can squirt the water into your mouth. With a little practice, you can learn how to do it without spilling it all other yourself!
  14. I'm also surprised that Signs got such a high rating on http://us.imdb.com/Title?0286106 (7.9 out of 10, #226 out of 600,000 movies!)
  15. I'm surprised that this movie is doing so well. It was #1 again last weekend. It must be getting good word-of-mouth.
