  1. Our 19 yr old son has just committed suicide. He was an extremely happy, intelligent, sporty and popular young man from a very loving and stable family environment. He was adored by his parents, 3 older brothers, extended family and close friends. He had never been depressed, nor did he have any issues that could have prompted such unbelievable action. He had never touched illegal drugs; had not even had a puff of a cigarette. He was just a very well grounded, secure and happy individual, who had really enjoyed his first of university. He was on his 6th day of doxycycline for the treatment of a rash on his face (perioral dermatitis). I had cooked him a big breakfast, which he had eaten in front of the cricket with his oldest brother and taken another 2 capsules. He was going to play cricket that day with his friends and had been searching for his whites. He couldn't find them and had contacted his mate to bring some along for him. However, instead of picking up his cricket bag, which he had waiting at the front door, he drove the 10 minutes to his old school, climbed the stairs and jumped off the roof. I assure you this was not him. It was some sort of a brain snap which must have been caused by a reaction to the doxycycline. We are left with nothing but horror and aching hearts, which will never leave us. He was an exceptionally kind and loving person and not a single soul who has known him can fathom it could be anything but altered brain chemicals as a result of the medication. There is no other explanation. Has anyone heard of any similar reactions?
