  1. Haribol Theist, How long have you been vegan?
  2. As a matter of fact its not even mentioned in the texts, that radish, onion, garlic masoor dal, etc should not be eaten
  3. I agree with being VEGETARIAN is a compassionate way, spiritual way of living I myself being one fully support the immense benefits of a being a vegetarian. However, if one reads carefully, all the examples you cited are mainly "purports" or "commentaries" and nowhere in the original text it is mentioned which is satvic and which categorises as tamasic. The original texts only describes the qualities of food and not names of food. If hot and spicy are not satvic then chillies pepper etc becomes unofferable. If you should not offer within 3 hours of preparations, then most curd preparations, paneer khoya gulab jamuns, rasa gula, etc overnight soaked dals, bread, cakes, etc cannot be offerable as well.
  4. Are you saying that Islam doesnt give a way to terror acts? If so, then I would get hold of some school of history books and see if there was ever any "terror" in the name of religion. Oh and you just mentioned Islam is against terrorism, do you mean that its supporting peace? And what is the view on animals? Does it have concept of soul in animals? or Does it allow you to brutally murder animals as long as the taste buds are satisfied and, then you can very well justify this killing as being permitted in your texts. What do you feel about it ? What about factory farming of animals or any way the blood is shed for your food? How can you justify this ? What makes you so sure about what you hear from your peers about your religion, is a way to peace? How did Islam give example in terms of peace? What about woman? Why men go around in jeans, with heads open whereas woman cannot? If you support this religion then you support many crimes that come along with it, inluding supression of women. I am sorry to say but you are supporting something which you have no idea of and instead you could have used your time in doing something really compassionate and prevent all this brutalities, but unfortunately you are spending your time worthlessly in attempts of spreading only more hate and less compassion. You have got human intelligence at least to deal and face with real world and come out your illusions and excuses of promoting something which you know is not right. Yes, wouldnt this world be a better place if all muslims in the world go VEGETARIAN as Muslims can be vegetarians
  5. If you ask me, I would say, God is ONE, the SUPREME, the ABSOLUTE LOVE. But you ask if Christ and Krishna are same, well, to my knowledge, Christ was not playing flute, neither was doing any passtimes of protecting cows, playing sweet flute, or accepting Himself as the SUPREME. If you chant the form of Christ, you cannot see the SUPREME in its sweetness as is with KRISHNA, because Krishna is ALL Attractive. Now, if you have faith, believe in Christ and it makes you humble, to serve the devoted people and spread LOVE, and compassion, then it can benefit you. But if you say you chant Christ, and at the same time, dont see the suffering of slaughtered animals, (as most Christians I know are meat eaters and dont care about animals if they have soul or no as far as it satisfies the taste buds with their flesh and blood) who are killed brutally for "food" industry, then I think you cannot call yourself devoted to "love" for Christ. Because if you could understand love and compassion, you would have it for jivas who have eyes but cant speak. Whereas, Vaishnavas know the suffering of others and know that this material word is full of pain and suffering so they try to make it better by spreading love and compassion and would hesitate to kill even a fly.
  6. There are also different varities of masoor dal. Is it only specifically for red masoor dal only? Lentils can be of green variety, are all varieties considered "tamasic". Nobody answered my hing question, is it satvic? How come Hing is satvic and radish not. You also did not answer, if only "satvic" food is offerable. If so, then chillies, pepper and other hot things are not offerable as well as any fermented food like cakes, bread, idli, even dahi . Also fried food is not satvic, so what about it then? I am wondering where does it mention, what food is satvic and what food is tamasic.
  7. Namaste, Are you saying that only "Satvik" food can be offerable to Hari? Is Hing satvic?
  8. I am limited with my understanding of some things, so I have these question as well, if someone can please enlighten? Why onion , garlic, radish, masoor dal, etc even though are vegetarian food, cannot be offerable? It also saddens me when I think about how milk nowadays is obtained and how our mother cows are treated. Please forgive me. OmHari
  9. Egg cannnot be considered as vegeatarian because it comes from birds and it will develop into the same with time. If you are vegetarian, you dont eat meat including meat of fish and eggs. If you eat fish you are pescetarian and if you consume eggs, you are OVOvegetarian(a misleading term) , NOT vegetarian. I also heard that its birds menstruation It also comes out from the place where the birds do poop. There is life inside it which is yet to develop, if not eaten, will develop into bird. Just for your information , Do you know how the birds are treated for POULTRY industry ? Female chicks are sold to egg producers to begin their careers as 'layers', their beaks and sometimes toes are clipped . Do you know they even cut their beaks, so that they will not peck, put them narrowly confined in CAGE , this cage environment of egg producing does not permit birds to roam,so they cannot fly, move or even stretch their wings. And what happens to male chicks? As male chicks are "worthless "(for egg-type hatcheries) they are collected when hatched and are put in plastic bags where they slowly suffocated to dead Vegetarians dont support poultry. And as a vegetarian, I dont support poultry. Health: Egg intake diversely affects the body's cholesterol, increases cardiovascular risk in diabetic patients, Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium infections due to egg consumptions are major concerns also consumption of eggs has been linked to an increased risk of Type 2 diabetes in both men and women. Growing number of diabetics IS a health concern
  10. Would you share that information here, what you found about spices to avoid
  11. From Wiki Asafoetida has certain medicinal uses and most commonly is used as a digestive aid. It is reputed to lessen flatulence and is often added to lentil or aubergine dishes in small quantities. It is also said to be helpful in cases of asthma and bronchitis. A folk tradition remedy for children's colds: it is mixed into a pungent-smelling paste and hung in a bag around the afflicted child's neck. In Thailand it is used to aid babies' digestion and is smeared on the child's stomach in an alcohol tincture known as "mahahing." John C Duval reported in 1936 that the odor of asafoetida is attractive to the wolf, a matter of common knowledge, he says, along the Texas/Mexico border. Asafoetida has also been reported to have contraceptive/abortifacient activity, and is related (and considered an inferior substitute to) the ancient Ferula species Silphium. Asafoetida oleo-gum-resin has been reported to be antiepileptic in classical Unani as well as ethnobotanical literature.
  12. I dont know for some reasons I find even the smell of hing a bit well, not so appealing. I was reading that in some hot and poor parts of India, they consume lot of onion with roti
  13. Do you think giving up on onion and garlic would reverse the effects? That is, if you have extreme body odor, you stop consuming onion/garlic, would that help. What about other spices, like ginger or hing or carrots? Is BO related to root vegetables which have strong smell when raw?
  14. I find the food topics interesting, and if someone has done any history studies, I would like to know were the root vegetables like carrots, ginger, onion, garlic, potato etc eaten at the time of Hari or even Mahaprabhu? Also what about animals who are closely related to us, do they eat that? In Ayurveda some benefits are mentioned. If you say garlic is not consummable, then what about mustard seeds, they are obviously not good in excess quatities
  15. As a devotee of Hari, do you think eating onion and garlic would matter?
  16. As humans, we all suffer at times in our lives, why dont we ask ourselves about compassion for animals, who are very similar to us? Why cant we understand their pain? I was born a vegetarian and I think its a relationship of mother and child, if we drink milk of cow, we have to love and respect cow as our mother. Cow also has gestation period of 9 months like humans. How beautiful her eyes are! But unfortunately, people dont realise the suffering of cows in the factory farms. How would people feel if their mother or themselves or someone they dearly love was treated like that?
  17. Yes, atleast I am not alone on this one... About AncientMariner's points, and his question for vaishnav society view , I would say a few things here: If the society were to go Vaishnav, it would GREATLY benefit the society. And yes, that would be great to environment and also to us personally. You want to know why? Because vaishnavs are 1. Vegetarian. -Health care costs reduced -No factory farming of animals -No animals hunted to the point of extinction -Stop to cruelty and more of compassionate living. 2. Controlling urges for *ex -No need for artificial plastics, pills, etc for contraception because in vaishnav society, union is meant only for making children, having family, and not for personal pleasure. -No "unwanted" babies, all children within wedlock -So more social protection in society for the children. 3. Less materialistic -Earning is mainly to run the household and provide food for guests, etc Vegetarian food is distributed to those who are needy for free. -Not accumulating weath for personal benefits, only accumulating as much requred to run the household. 4. Not drinking 5. Not smoking So imagine a world where all are vaishnavs, that is, nobody smokes or consumes alcohol, how positively it would affect our social environment!
  18. Am I the only one who understands this, and would love to imagine if people would stop running all their lives for more and more...Yes, we need to work less, spend less and live more....
  19. Interesting link , I have always been a vegetarian and I think if we can live on plant based diet, and be vegetarians, why choose the other way ?
  20. Also its known that factory farming and brutal killing of animals is doing no good to our planet, and what we eat DOES affect us and our relationship mother Earth and being vegetarian alone, can bring down many environmental issues that we are facing today. MANY positive changes can be brought about by simply switching to being Vegetarian. Not only it benefits personally(our health and wellbeing) but also to our environment as a whole.. Destroying our forests for ranching ,fishing industry slowly killing off the oceans, is also not just about the land use & supply issue, raising of animals for food contributes also to various diseases, which lead to "health care" pharma industries booming up, a lot of resources used up on that.. We have (healthier, environmental) choice and that is to be a VEGETARIAN
  21. Being VEGETARIAN is a big step forward to do anything positive about our environment. Vaishnavas are vegetarians
