  1. Years ago, I was told to begin Japa on the smaller beads of the mala each day. I was also told to tie a little string just after the 8th bead, to indicate the 8 principal gopis. I also remember reading this in one of Srila Prabhupada's books years later. For some reason I thought it was in NOD, but I can't find it there. I also sort of recall it being a recommendation of Srila Bhaktivinoda Swami's. Can anyone tell me the source I'm looking for - from which Prabhupada's books - including the actual statement? Being independently destitute (!) I don't have the data-base. Your help would be very gratefully accepted! Damodara dasa
