  1. The individual soul acts as a servant of Krishna in personalism; for impersonalism the individuality of the soul is illusion, all souls are supposed to be God. We have a memory of previous birth, but not in the state you may want it. The reason your body is in this way is due to that karmic memory. What we call memory is simply accumulated karma. Your material personality is some memory from past lives. True memory is everlasting and it is sourced from Krishna where He says in Bhagavad-gita: "I'm am dwelling in the hearts of all living beings, from Me comes knowledge, rememberance and forgetfulness." (BG 15.15) Our behavior in Krishnaloka is to serve Krishna in His pastimes for His enjoyment. That is our true nature: "jivera svarupa haya krsnera nitya dasa"
  2. Pasts deaths, no experiences, but death in dreams I've experienced so often that I get bored of them and don't wake up anymore (from the so-called trauma). The amazing thing is to be 'reborn' in the dream itself. Scary... trust me, you get used to some set of senses in the dream, then in the next 'birth' you have a completely new set of mentality and senses.
  3. why does the soul need a body? spiritual and material ***** The soul doesn't need a material body, although he thinks in this way because of his selfish desire to lord over material nature. He needs this material 'yantra' (machine) to executes his innumerable desires. The spiritual body is the soul himself in his original form as servant of Krishna.
  4. Funnily enough for me it was the inverse. Before reading Prabhupada's book I hoped for death to come to me. (Not suicidal though) Everytime I heard someone died closed to where I lived I felt, "Shucks I wasn't there in that person's place." I foolishly thought that death was going to be the end of my mental miseries. I was a voidist. Prabhupada is slowly but surely saving me from this disease of voidism. Like the second pranali prayer to Prabhupada. "He came to deliver people from impersonalism and voidism." Jaya Srila Prabhupada!!
  5. As you said, Jesus didn't say he is God, but the son of God. Krishna said that He is God, therefore He is the Absolute personality without any duality of this worthless material world. God is beyond good and bad. Krishna is Absolute, He owns everything and He truly is the well-wisher of all. You are forgetting Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu who is Krishna Himself who descended to give us all hungry souls, true Love of God by His mercy.
  6. The Holy Name is pure goodness personified, nama cintamani rasa vighraha. ***** It is true, but the ears are very much affected by the modes of nature and if we listen to the Holy name with some expectation of fruitive result or speculative knowledge then it is not considered pure chanting. Although your recommendation is perfect: **** So please go on chanting, never give up and eventually after some time the pure name sun will rise in the sky of the heart and burn away the dense fog of the lower modes of passion and ignorance. **** jaya sri-krishna-sankirtana ceto-darpana marjanam This chanting cleans the mirror of the heart from dust of material modes of nature. Haribol!!!
  7. In the 4th canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, Lord Siva instruct the 10 sons of Pracinabarhi to worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead. 4.29.3. The great sage Maitreya said: The sons of King Pracinabarhi, known as the Pracetas, underwent severe austerities within the seawater to carry out the order of their father. By chanting and repeating the mantras given by Lord Siva, they were able to satisfy Lord Visnu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In chapter 24 of this canto we have the prayer Lord Siva gave to the Pracetas glorifying the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Here you go /images/graemlins/smile.gif
  8. BG 4.1: The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvän, and Vivasvän instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Ikshväku. Purport: (section) "In the beginning of the Tretä-yuga [millennium] this science of the relationship with the Supreme was delivered by Vivasvän to Manu. Manu, being the father of mankind, gave it to his son Mahäräja Ikñväku, the King of this earth planet and forefather of the Raghu dynasty in which Lord Rämacandra appeared. Therefore, Bhagavad-gétä existed in the human society from the time of Mahäräja Ikñväku." At the present moment we have just passed through five thousand years of the Kali-yuga, which lasts 432,000 years. Before this there was Dväpara-yuga (800,000 years), and before that there was Tretä-yuga (1,200,000 years). Thus, some 2,005,000 years ago, Manu spoke the Bhagavad-gétä to his disciple and son Mahäräja lkñväku, the King of this planet earth. The age of the current Manu is calculated to last some 305,300,000 years, of which 120,400,000 have passed. Accepting that before the birth of Manu, the Gétä was spoken by the Lord to His disciple, the sun-god Vivasvän, a rough estimate is that the Gétä was spoken at least 120,400,000 years ago; and in human society it has been extant for two million years. It was respoken by the Lord again to Arjuna about five thousand years ago. That is the rough estimate of the history of the Géta, according to the Gétä itself and according to the version of the speaker, Lord Çré Kåñëa. It was spoken to the sun-god Vivasvän because he is also a kñatriya and is the father of all kñatriyas who are descendants of the sun-god, or the sürya-vaàça kñatriyas. Because Bhagavad-gétä is as good as the Vedas, being spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, this knowledge is apauruñeya, superhuman. Since the Vedic instructions are accepted as they are, without human interpretation, the Gétä must therefore be accepted without mundane interpretation. The mundane wranglers may speculate on the Gétä in their own ways, but that is not Bhagavad-gétä as it is. Therefore, Bhagavad-gétä has to be accepted as it is, from the disciplic succession, and it is described herein that the Lord spoke to the sun-god, the sun-god spoke to his son Manu, and Manu spoke to his son Ikñväku." Sorry for the bad letters in the text.
  9. The person also asked "is the Gita kept in a museum" I said "if y get a copy of Gita by SP, place a glass case over it, and put it in a room, you have a museum piece" Did I say anything wrong! ****** Absolutely not. They simply didn't understand that this piece is the actual commentary contained in this book which is a true piece to be kept for eternity in our hearts. Jaya Srila Prabhupada!!
  10. What is the question here?? ****** I wasn't exactly asking a question, I wasn't too sure if the description I gave from the Songs of Solomon were description of God or some mundane lover. I was simply trying to anwer Theist's question on description of God from the Bible.
  11. Now description of God from Solomon in Songs of Solomon: 1st 3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume poured out. No wonder the maidens love you! 10 Your cheeks are beautiful with earrings, your neck with strings of jewels. 2nd 9 My lover is like a gazelle or a young stag. 4th Your eyes behind your veil are doves. Your hair is like a flock of goats descending from Mount Gilead. 2 Your teeth are like a flock of sheep just shorn, coming up from the washing. Each has its twin; not one of them is alone. 3 Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon; your mouth is lovely. Your temples behind your veil are like the halves of a pomegranate. 4 Your neck is like the tower of David, built with elegance And the best of all in the 5th 10 My lover is radiant and ruddy, outstanding among ten thousand. 11 His head is purest gold; his hair is wavy and black as a raven. 12 His eyes are like doves by the water streams, washed in milk, mounted like jewels. 13 His cheeks are like beds of spice yielding perfume. His lips are like lilies dripping with myrrh. 14 His arms are rods of gold set with chrysolite. His body is like polished ivory decorated with sapphires. 15 His legs are pillars of marble set on bases of pure gold. His appearance is like Lebanon, choice as its cedars. 16 His mouth is sweetness itself; he is altogether lovely. This is my lover, this my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem. Now ever since I was young I always thought that it is a form of God that is described, but never got around asking any Catholic priest about it. I may be wrong and this lover described here may be a normal person.
  12. You got me curious and decided to try to find for our guest some of the answers in the Bible. I'll admit it is not easy. Relationship between God and soul: Romans 8.5: "Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires." Romans 8.13: "For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live," The only reason I can quote these 2 on the sambanda is because I know of Vedic answers. The body is dead and the soul is alive, sinful activities are when one is pleasing himself and not pleasing God. Our nature to be with Spirit is to please God and 'live' in the true sense. Next reply will contain a description of God. Haribol!!
  13. THEN WHY ARE ALL THESE NON-VEGETARIANS LEADING A HAPPIER LIFE ? WHY ARE THE VEGETARIANS AND THE DHARMIC PEOPLE SUFFERING ? DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE IT MATTERS WHETHER YOU ARE VEGETARIAN OR NOT ? ONCE YOU DIE, IT'S THE END. WAKE UP, STOP DREAMING. ******* Can you tell me what is happiness? Can you tell me what is suffering? In a voidist mentality no it really doesn't matter if you are a vegetarian or not. I accept your decision, can you accept my decision to be a 'personalist' believer of God and that God prefers I don't eat meat? Hare Krishna, wishing you happiness in your life /images/graemlins/smile.gif

  15. Hare Krishna, This strictly depends on the location I would say because I've been around a temple community for 2 years now and I never seen men touch women at least on temple grounds. Now what do you mean by touching... errr on second thought I prefer not to know, but I was thinking accidental touching not included in that touching. I know for a fact that devotees at the temple I go to are very advanced and respect this principle. What happens at other temples, depends on the authorities and the character of the individuals.

  17. I have a question on behavior with devotees. This is a follow-up of an event that happened last night during Lord Balarama's appearance celebration at the temple. I've noticed that while serving prasadam to devotees, me being the person serving, they are quiet. They often give me incomprehensible signs with their hands instead of just telling me what they want. Am I just dumb or something??? Last night while serving a plate to someone he started to be agitated because I didn't understand his hand symbols that meant nothing to me. In my mind I wanted to scream "just say it for Krishna's sake." But I immediately cooled down saying in my head: "Krishna please protect me from anger." And luckily He sent 2 devotees to take my place, and I understood this as a sign to get away and I left (even the temple). And this is happening especially with female devotees, I'm male just to clearify things. I know the thing with association between male and female devotees. But is it so illegal to even say something to a guy when one is female? "Put the subji on the rice" is it so illegal to say this????? I'm wondering if this is a test from Krishna or something. He knows I hate/fear silence with people and these hands signs are just so annoying.
  18. Thanks, I really liked the one with Prabhupada making someone wash the pots to test his sincerity.
  19. from Teachings of Lord Caitanya: "The principal word in the Vedas, pranava omkara, is the sound representation of the Supreme Lord. Therefore omkara should be considered the supreme sound." "Omkara is the reservoir of all the energies of the Supreme Lord." "In Bhagavad-gita the Lord has in many places given importance to omkara, (Bg. 8.13, 9.17, 17.24)." (Sorry I don't have the Gita here now) "'Omkara is the most confidential sound representation of the Supreme Lord.' The sound representation or name of the Supreme Lord is as good as the Supreme Lord Himself." "In the Mandukya Upanisad it is said that when omkara is chanted, whatever is seen as material is seen perfectly as spiritual. In the spiritual world or in spiritual vision there is nothing but omkara, or the one alternate, om." "He (omkara) is the beginning, middle and end, and He is beginningless as well. When one understands omkara as such, he becomes immortal. One should thus know omkara as a representation of the Supreme situated in everyone’s heart. One who understands omkara and Vishnu as being one and the same and all-pervading never laments in the material world, nor does he remain a sudra." "Although He (omkara) has no material form, He is unlimitedly expanded, and He has unlimited form. By understanding omkara one can become free from the duality of the material world and attain absolute knowledge. Therefore omkara is the most auspicious representation of the Supreme Lord." "Omkara is therefore the ultimate representation of all the Vedas. Indeed, the Vedic mantras or hymns have transcendental value because they are prefixed by the syllable om. The Vaisnavas interpret omkara as follows: by the letter O, Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is indicated; by the letter U, Krishna’s eternal consort Srimati Radharani is indicated; and by the letter M, the eternal servitor of the Supreme Lord, the living entity, is indicated." hope this helped

  21. I have a simple question about what is to be considered sincerity. I've asked other devotees at my local temple, but I couldn't understand their answer on sincerity. Anyone has something on that?

    maya

maya means "which is not" or illusion In the desert of material existence a mirage (sense gratification) "which is not" true is much more appealing to the living entity than sand (inactivity). That's why maya is so beautiful.
