Spiritual but non-religious one of my favorites is The Way of the Pilgrim by Anon. A real gem. Short and sweet. May not be what you are looking for.

Curious.... How do you reason that this is a non-religious book? And how is something not religious on one hand and spiritual on the other? Again, just curious. Thank you.

I'm also going to be doing the Vipassana Meditation course for 10 days in Northern California...what do you think of that? Alot has changed for me since I realized that God is impersonal...I feel really good chanting the maha mantra...and definitely want to know the supreme personality of godhead...do u think I could mix the two? vipassana and bhakti yoga?

Another question I had is...is it good or bad to get a tattoo...say perhaps of one of the mantras in sri isopanisad?

On this page scroll down 16 rows and you will see a tattoo. Click on my favorite and you will then find a lot of examples that might inspire you.

  3. I always thought it interesting when Jesus asked his disciples who the people say he (Jesus) is, and they replied that some think he is Abraham while other think he is ....hmm...Moses or some other great prophet. I forget. But the point is that Jesus didn't rebuke his disciples for such an obvious re-incarnation flavored answer. If re-incarnation doesn't exist, this would have been the perfect moment to set mankind straight. But he didn't.

Thank cbrahma - only scripture seems to be able to communicate love in such light...

... so the next question is - how do we develop such Prema? (haha, i guess that's the ULTIMATE question, yet seems like such a simple one, doesn't it?)

From my very superficial understanding and reading, you don't develop "such Prema," in the sense of some material endeavor. Rather it is a blessing - a gift.

"....This supreme gift perfectly matches the supreme goal spoken about in the Holy Scriptures—attaining love of God. In other words, when you’ve got love of Godhead, you’ve got all there is to get. It is exactly this criterion of love that is compressed within the Holy Name. Remember, attaining love of God is the ultimate result of devotional service—the "development of genuine love for the Supreme Lord." (Shrimad-Bhagavatam 1.7.7)

And as far as the quality of that love—produced by the Holy Name—"it is the unique and highest development of love of God!" This is "the ultimate benediction for all human beings—situating (them) within the Lord’s intimate circle of devotees." (Chaitanya-charitamrita, Adi-lila 7.1, 7.17,& Introduction)

Shrila Prabhupada writes that, "Krishna and His devotees become perfectly intimate" within this yardstick of love, "enjoying transcendental bliss perfectly."

"Lord Krishna is indeed captivated by this standard of love."

The saints remind us that it is exactly this kind of love that Lord Chaitanya so highly praises. As we pray, this coveted treasure awakens within our heart. "It imbues the chanter with a spirit of devotion for the Lord, and makes one more and more greedy to achieve the shelter of the lotus-feet of Lord Krishna." (Chaitanya-charitamrita, Introduction: Adi-lila, & Madhya-lila 8.8)

i just dont care about anything anymore....

No one knows your "world" more than yourself. You are looking about ...and nothing is interesting. This is the problem because anyone who contacts something that they find HIGHLY INTERESTING becomes supercharged with all kind of enery, happiness, ideas, motivation, etc. Depressing your universe smaller is obvious not going to expand your vision. You need to search a wider area for "that thing" that you find highly interesting. Also, there is this general rule: right actions produce right results; wrong actions produce wrong results. I always say, if you don't like what's happening (which is normally the result of a wrong action), the only way to start getting "right results" is by "right actions." Hope this helps.

Sorry about the length. But it is a book, after all. And compared to most paperbacks, its rather small. I wanted to tell the story of Gajendra. Placed in context where I mention the other elephants, this story was a logical choice. Then I was faced with the question of eliminating parts of it, or not. Some would say the story is too long to read. Others would come down on me for chopping it up. Right, who am I do that? So I included the entire thing. Parts of the Srimad Bhagavatam are long and tedious to read. I also wrote, Krishna and the Art of Bicycle Maintenance to introduce the Vedas to people who have never been aware of them. The greatest challenge is to make religion interesting. Every ounce of effort I had went into achieving this as I wrote the entire book. This is an e-book and it is completley free.

I suspect our friend is asking you to put up the recipee... and then take your mobile phone camera and shoot a video of yourself cooking the recipee and put the video file (in .3gp mobile phone video format) up on yourtube and give a link so people can read the recipee and also see how to cook it :)

I would like to get more involved in making YouTube-type videos. A year ago I put two videos up as an experiment but was not pleased with the quality. I see some videos that are very clear and others not. I have the means to buy the right video camera, but which one?? But then again, I think $500 is tops. There seems to be some knowledge about these things here. What would you buy? I suppose you would want a vid-camera that shot a big file so that when reduced it would stay very nice. Right now I own the Panasonic FZ50 with 12x zoom. This is a digital camera, but it takes video. The video I am not very impressed with. And an external mic option would be a must, I would think. What advice can you give me? This would be appreciated and you have my thanks in advance. rsd

  10. I don't see on this forum where to mention recipes, so I hope I do not offend anyone by mentioning that on the link below you will find a recipe section. As the former head cook in Chicago and for Kalachandji's in Dallas, I have some pretty awesome recipes that I doubt many know of. Also, please feel welcome to share on this thread any recipes that you think are out-of-this-world delicious. I will include them on my recipe page. Thanks, rsd

Oh, this is your website? It's very nicely put together! I'll be sure to take a more in-depth look at it.

I love Guadalupe. She's such a little sweet heart! :D I really like the pic of her defeating the Red Dragon... so dramatic!

Yes, my website. Some new things are in the works. These will be posted soon. Thank you. And yes, religious art is very nice to look at. Spiritual windows. The kind that is painted with loving devotion to God. rsd

I full heartedly agree. Mary is just as much a form of the Divine Mother as Kali or Radharani. Did you read about the priest (his name escapes me) who said that he saw Mary and on the way back from the apparition site died with a smile on his lips? I, personally, think that he entered into Samadhi. Some people on here might say, "Samadhi can only be reached through the Sanatan Dharma!", but, hey, the Vedas themselves say that Truth is One but is called by many names!

Have you ever heard of Guadalupe (http://www.sancta.org/)? That's my favorite of all the apparitions of Mary. :D

Thank you for your input. Actually, if you go back to that page where all the items on Gagabandal are located, below the photo of one of the girls levitating, you will see a small picture of the priest, Father Andreu, that you have mentioned. The link there will take you to the full story. What happend to him is nicely written down, if you are interested. Here is that link, again: http://www.cedarpost.com/GarabandalEvents.htm

Regarding Our Lady of Guadalupe, I also have this story on my website. I have a pretty extensive collection of pictures included with the full story. The pictures are very nice, as is the story. I live next to the Guadalupe River so down here in Texas you see Her Holy image everywhere. Here is that link: http://www.cedarpost.com/Guadalupe.htm
