    ------

Victory to you, O Mahakali ! Victory to you, O primordial source of

all beings ! Victory to you, O formidable looking goddess, who are

renowned as the very mother of the world !

Victory, all victory to you, O great goddess Mahakalika, of terrible

and frightening aspect ! Victory to you, O Moon on the locks of Siva,

who are ever adored by gods, men, hermits, and devotees.

Victory, all victory to you, O consort of Rudra; you are fearsome to

look at and prefer a drink of hot blood; you are described as having

a sword in your hollowed hand and as one who fills her cranial bowl

with the blood of her victim.

Glory, glory, all glory to you, O Kali, the bearer of a cranial bowl

and a sword in your hands. Victory to you, O terrible Delusion, the

might of Rudra, and the very death of Death.

O Mother, it is for the slaughter of the demons Madhu and Kaitabha

that you appeared from the body of Hari. O Mother, your dark form

radiant as the sun looks so splendidly winsome that the god of beauty

himself cannot but succumb to its charm

You are ten-faced with thirty attractive eyes, the crescent moon and

a lovely coronet on your head, O Divine Mother; who can describe your

comeliness and your dark hair like massed clouds?

The beauty of the garland made of your victims' skulls looks splendid

as do the weapons and missiles in all your ten hands. You carry a

    cranial bowl, a sword, a three-progned trident, an axe, a club, a

disc, a bow and a conch, all in their proper places.

The beautiful skirt made of the severed arms of your enemies looks so

becoming like the sacred ornaments adorning every part of your body.

Your ten dread feet are all smeared with blood and your long tongue

sticks out, rendering your appearance frightening.

When, O Mother, you laugh aloud, the earth shivers (like one suffering

from shaking chills). Blessed are you, O Primordial Energy and foster-

mother of the world, you are presiding deity of Doom (who causes

    universal destruction).

O Mother Kali ! It is your divine feet that made Siva's appearance

possible in the world; you have long protruding tongue and a

frightening look. Blessed, all blessed are you, O Mother Kali of

Calcutta, who are thousand-armed and who have your abode in Sivapura.

O Kali ! as Sita you were instrumental in bringing about Ravana's

destruction and Raghupati's which, appearing, became amorous of the

Lord's feet. You assumed manifold forms for the well-being, peace and

    happiness of the world.

You manifested yourself in the form of Krishna and let your sword be

mysteriously transformed into a flute in his hand. Sometimes you take

on the form of Visnu with his four arms, at other times of one

(Durga, for example) having eight arms, at still other one having ten

    or eighteen arms.

You sometimes appear with thirty-two arms, at other times with just

the double of this number, and at still others multiply your arms

into a thousand in order to slay your enemies. You are the very power

of Hari invoked with prayer at midnight; you have long sharp fangs

and a protruding tongue showing your blood-thirsty and fearsome

    nature.

You are furious combatant (raktacandika) with a sword in your hand

(you are usually shown on the battlefield or in a cremation ground

where you sit on a corpse surrounded by jackals and goblins); you are

at once soothing like the moon and fearsome like Rudra and the slayer

of the wicked. You are sublime as a hundred peaked mountain and a

primordial deity of black or dark complexion. You dwell amongst dark,

    untrodden caverns.

You are the original mother (of all beings) and at the same time a

dread deity with human heads for your garland; you're the very slayer

of Kamsa and subduer of ghosts and goblins; you're Bhadrakali, a

dweller on Kailasa and one who thirsts for the blood of the wicked.

Again and again you strike off the heads of your enemies (with your

slashing sword) and fill your cranial bowl with blood (oozing from

corpses). You gorge yourself on the demon host one after another and

rushing on and on shed their wicked blood.

Blessed, blessed, all blessed are you, O Mother Kali, who cause your

enemies to lick the dust one after another. I entreat you, O Mother,

to fulfil your votary's expectations and grant him your favour.

I am in a perilous predicament, O Mother, and know not whom to call

for help. I am being pursued on the rough roads of life by four

robbers who are bent upon turning me against the lord of the house of

    Raghus, Rama.

These are my prime enemies, the sovereign lords of all the deadly

evils; lust, anger, infatuation and avarice. If you overthrow them

(and abandon me not to my troubles), I would be blessed with devotion

    to Lord Krishna.

I also urge you, Mother, to put an end to the unending string of the

wicked (bent on vexing me) immediately. All those wicked souls, who

are confirmed sinners, evil-doers, mean, and suffer from idle

    volubility and vain chattering.

Those who cause vexation without being provoked, and who render all

religious observances propitious activities fruitless, you pick up, O

Mother, and slaughter them without delay; let not this prayer of your

    son go in vain.

I entreat you, O Mother, to reveal yourself as the power of Indra (or

as Indrani or as Durga) and display your wondrous might. Slay the

    villains promptly without further delay.

Fill the homes of your devotees with peace, happiness and prosperity,

so that this countryside becomes seat of growing exultation and

felicity. Sundardasa bows to you again and again, O Mother, and

supplicates you to fulfil his expectation.

This hymn to the acts of the formidable Kali is like a sacred formula

capable of fulfilling every wish as if it were a magic talisman and a

charm. He who wishes to attain brilliance should read this hymn to

Kali; for it will ensure the destruction of all those who are hostile

to Kali promise which would never go in vain. Kai incarnates the very

vital force and power of Hari with which she destroys her enemies for

    the well-being of the world.

Every man and woman who seeks refuge in Mother's protective grace

and, abandoning all other support, meditates on her, reaps all the

auspicious rewards without any effort, so sings Sundaradasa.

wow very inspiring words. Thanks a million...understanding the words, helps bring meaning to the chalisa. It's great when you can understand what you say or sing when praying. It brings much more heart felt feelings.

Thanks again..If you can translate the hanuman chalisa in english that would be wonderful.

Hey pujarie I will be visiting Trinidad this year and would like to visit your temple..What temple do you go to? I hope your temple does not do animal sacrifice.. My mother does not believe alot of people's comments but you seem to have won her over with your knowledge.I would like to discuss something with you but I cannot post it on this site as it is personal.

    Thanks again

wait let us examine what you said for a minute. the majority of my knowledge came from in and around sacrificial pooja. in this earth alot of people do not like to go to a blood temple but check this: are you a vegetarian if not why. you pooja a god and say that you do not give to her blood however you eat from saran to baran( meaning anything) yet inside your body since the meat has not yet been properly digested you go infront of the same devi who does not eat meat by your hand but by mine and you pray to her. now who is untrue to their nature. Kali maa does not want blood, meat, rum and cigars but yet watch the persons who use these remarks they do more of it on a daily basis.

i am sorry to tell you but my temple does animal sacrifice but does that change who i am. does that change the knowledge in my brains, does that mean that if you visit my temple you are immediately going to have to give blood.would my impression from start change now like if i have been a leper that you would scorn me.

point: what i do and how i poojay i poojay for my self not no one else and in this life certain persons are born with certain rha's that come with them in this life so they CHOOSE to carry on these types of poojas and if you witness one that does not mean to say you have to do the same. if you decide to poojay the divine Kali Maa satvic that is very good but be honest about it for if you cannot offer what you eat then dont eat it. for example there are some who come in temple dont do sacrifice but use to party every friday, big cook and lime problems started to happen in family do you know what was solution. simple just fasting on friday and abstaining from meat and alcohol now if they had gne to another place the other pujaries would have told them to perform blood pooja. but this is not my way. if you have never done any within your life why start now. many persons fear what they dont know about so i suggest they learn. you might say where to learn. but all around you can learn but the key is to have an open mind and when you reach a place that makes sense of what you are doing god is within.

discrimination falls under hatred and this is one of the sheats that we have to remove. remember what i do i do for me.

You are absolutely 100 % right in what you said. People do exactly like you said they do, and then preach differently. However I cannot speak about anyone else but myself.I am vegetarian by choice therefore I do not like sacrificial worship ..that does not mean that because you do worship that way, that I would think less of you. Kali Ma blesses each person by what is in their mind and heart not by what goes in their stomach. I do not nor have I ever discriminated against anyone ,regardless of race ,religion or sex. I respect everyone's way of life. Each person makes a decision on how they want to live their lives.Be it bad or good that's between them and their god.I will email you and tell you why I asked the questions I did.

    Jai Kali Ma

I am new to all this .Can you tell me what is vaishnavism?

and what is the corect way to worship mother kali ?

let me see if i can help. in hinduism there are certain sects and these worship six forms of the godhead but there are more on a lesser account. now from the main six Ganesh, Devi, Siva, Vishnu, Surya and Skanda are mainly or largely worshiped. now the Ganapatyas worship lord ganesh, Shaktas the devi, Vaishnavas; lord Vishnu, Sauras; lord Surya and Kaumaras worship lord Murgan. Vaishnavism or the worship of lord Vishnu are usually distinguished into other PRINCIPAL sects or Sampradayas.1) the Sri Vaishnavas adore Vishnu and Lakshmi and their incarnations. and are also called Ramanujas after the founder Ramanjuna Acharya and also Sri Sampradayins they are called. 2) from this root emerged two other roots Northern school Vadagalai and Southern School Tengalai the south regard self surrender as the only way to salvation whilst the north considers this only a one of the ways of a many few.3 the Ramanandis pay homage to Lord Rama, Sita and Hanuman. 4) the Vallabhacharins or Krishna Sampradayins worship Krishna as Bala Gopala 5) the Chaitanyas worship only lord Krishna as the Supreme being. 6) the Nimbarkas worship Krisna and Radha conjointly. 7) the madhvas worship lord vishnu and mark their upper chest and shoulder with iron brands of their lord. 8) Radha Vallabhis worship Krishna as the lover of Radha. hope this helps with your request but this has been tremendously shortened for easy reading but the whole of Vaishnaism is much more vast than these simple words, alot and lot of texts you have to read to fully understand all sub-sects. Anyways the correct way to worship is actually none. what you have to understand is that the truth of your nature is important. what i mean is that if you are evil then the truth is that you will want to learn and perform the best evil and if you are good then you will follow a different path. now regardless to your nature to worship the simplist way is Shodas upa-chaara or the sixteen modes of entertainment. now some pundits may disagree with me but regardles to style meaning the Sanatan way or the Shakta way the steps may be different but both use the same items but in different order. but again the goal is the same. there is no best way espicially what bhiro had said satvic and tamasic to worship maa kali before one has to do blood sacrifice he still has to fast the satvic way then perform. the killing or offering drink and smoke is just a step up. for i have to fast for mother pooja i have to fast forty two days. now pundit g boasts that he fasts every friday without salt and what not but first we have to find out that when you are fasting twenty one days for your prayers how much days does he perform fast. now if he is married and has house hold functions and spousal duties how many days do you think they fast to come in your house to perform your prayers you who have fasted twenty one. and then tells us that there is two ways to worship god. how foolish! stop and wait he is preaching punditaye way but giving solutions fron shakta school of thinking who is confused.

From an early essay from Srila A.C Bhaktivedanta:

The symptoms of Kali-yuga are vividly described in another chapter of BhAgavatam (Canto 12 Chapter 2) [s.B. 12.2.1]. It is said there that money will be the pivot of all activities in the Kali-yuga. It is money only which shall always and alone classify the different orders of society without any reference to the quality of birth or work and it is money only which will decide the propriety of one's claim in the matter of justice, freedom and equality. Personal attractiveness will decide the question of conjugal life between husband and wife and the process of cheating each other will be the crux of business transactions. Sexuality will be considered as the standard of men's or women's superiority and a mere piece of thread on the body will mark the sign of one's belonging in higher three orders of society. Simply by a change of garb i.e. from a white garment to the red and holding a rod as a mark of renunciation, will transfer anybody to the renounced order of life. One's inability to pay sufficiently will deprive one of receiving justice in the court and anyone who shall have the audacity to be an egoist, shall be considered as the most learned fellow.

To become stricken with poverty will be considered as one's being dishonest and pride and vanity will be the standard of honesty. Marriage will be validated by mere acceptance of an agreement and the simple act of washing one's body will serve all purposes of dressing.

Holy places of sacred water situated far off from one's home, will be considered as the place of pilgrimage; keeping long hairs on the head will be misunderstood as increasing the lustre of one's personal beauty. Self-realization will be identified with the mere filling of one's belly with foodstuff; truth will be realised by impertinence of behavior; ability will be measured by the process of maintaining one's family well, and religiosity will be practised for the sake of reputation.

When the whole atmosphere will be surcharged with the abovementioned symptoms of Kali-yuga--whoever amongst the brAhmaNas, kSatriyas, vaizyas or zUdras will be powerful, shall capture the reins of government. Such governmental administrators will naturally be unkind, selfish, covetous and expert in exploiting poor citizens by plundering their money and women. In such conditions of life the citizens will fly from one place to another as displaced refugees and being overpowered by constant visits of famine, epidemic diseases and overburdened by state taxes, will begin to eat grass, roots, meats, seeds, honey and unknown fruits to the risk of life. Due to scarcity of rains in the field they will gradually disappear from the surface of the earth.

The population in the Kali-yuga will be overtroubled by communal strife, hunger, thirst, diseases, winter, summer, rains and unparalleled anxiety for everything. The living bodies will gradually diminish in stature, the spiritual division of social orders such as four castes or four Azramas will be overcrowded only by the faithless unbelievers and they will lose all faith in the Vedic way of spiritual advancement. The infidel ruler will turn to one to become plunderer and the people in general will be infected unnecessarily with the habit of stealing, dishonesty, violence and similar rabid acts. There will remain no other caste except the zUdras, the cow being reduced to the stature of goat, the hermitages and monasteries being coverted into ordinary house, friendship being maintained only in relation with sexuality, medicinal herbs being impotent in efficacy like grass, big trees being shortened like the saplings, monsoon being devoid of rains and full of lightning and the general population being forced to labour like the ass, SrI KRSNa the Personality of Godhead will appear to reclaim the faithful and vanquish the faithless.

The life of Kali-yuga is estimated to the extent of four lakhs and thirty-two thousands of years beginning from the time of King ParIkSit i.e. after the battle of KurukSetra. As such it will take long long years before the advent of Kalki AvatAra at the end of the Kali-yuga. But the symptoms of Kali-yuga are already in vogue and the state of affairs will gradually deteriorate from bad to worse as it is stated in the BhAgavata PurANa in the most unambiguous term. The affairs will degrade to such an extent that the people in general will look like the Satan of the first magnitude being perturbed by anxieties in respect of state taxes, want of sufficient fooding, clothing, drinking, sleeping, bathing and sexuality. Addicted to unrestricted sexual pleasures only and act of filling the belly with foodstuff not fit for human consumption, low minded debauches will not scruple even to refuse maintaining old father helpless children and wife married from respectable family. The people of Kali-yuga will not worship the Almighty Godhead who is worshiped even by BrahmA and Siva.

Sukadeva GosvAmI the enlightened professor of BhAgavatam said to King ParIkSit that in spite of all the abovementioned deformities of the Kali-yuga, there is one most valuable source of transcendental realization in this age. The asset is that in the Kali-yuga one can transcend all the above troubles and reach to the supreme goal of life simply by chanting process of the transcendental holy name of KRSNa. That is a special prerogative chance for this age.

Thank you gHari that was amazing and educational.

I must admit I have had the same question.

When the holy scriptures were written it said that kalki would come. This is what is meant to happen and it will. God is the strongest force there is ..Do you know of some other force that can stop God? A person will be sent in the kali yuga era who's sole purpose for being here might be just to give birth to kalki. Did you ever think of that? There is a saying "where there is a will there is a way. Believe me there is a way because this is the Almighty God we are talking about.

    Jai Kali Ma

vaishnavism is a sect that only worships lord vishnu and his incarnations as the supreme being there are different sects lik shivaism only worships lord shiva and his incarnations as the supreme being an so on but dont worry any path you take will lead you to god so its your choice just like a city there are many roads to take to reach the heart of the city but anyone you take you will still reach to the heart of the city ok

as for maa kali there are different ways to worship her satvic or tamasic

tamasic part you have to offer her rum and goat but the satvic part you offer her coconut and devi dhar i do her worship satvic

normally what i would do is on a friday i would fast without salt (i dont eat meat or drink rum) offer her 9 lota of dhar (durga dhar),do 1080 jaap too her, offer 108 neem leaf in havan as well as a dry coconut, 1) offer her a green coconut by her picture or murti, with flowers and if you want offer her a saffron mala or 2) offer her the green coconut on a cloth, light a champer and chop the coconut.anyway u can do it you decide ok but if you offer her the coconut whole by her murti you should drink it the next day lik prasad ok and jai sita ram.
