Respected Devotee,

As all ekadasis are special for Lord Narayana, the pradosha vrathams are special to Lord Siva. By sincerely observing the ekadasi vratham for Lord Narayana, one win His grace and attain moksham.

From what I have learnt, pradosham is a kalam which comes every trayodasi (it comes twice a month, one each in krishna paksham and one in sukla paksham). Pradosham is a time period which lasts a total of 180 minutes (90 minutes before sunset and 90 minutes after sunset).

This time is considered to be very sacred in performing the worship of Lord Siva and His family of Goddess Bhagavathy, Lord Ganapathy, Lord Karthikeyan and Nandhi.

In temples, abhisegham to Lord Siva is perfomed and an elaborate puja is perfomed to Siva parivaram. Japam, dhyanam and mounam (silence) are recommended during pradosham.

Ardent devotees of Lord Siva observe a fast every trayodasi and break their vratham after the pradosha kala puja is completed.

Sincerely,

Kamlesh--- On Tue, 4/28/09, dmparyani <dmparyani > wrote:

Respected Devotee,

Pradosham normally falls two days after ekadasi (sometimes it is just after one day).

The pradosham vrathams falling on Mondays ( Somapradosham) and on saturdays (Sanipradosham) are considered to be especially important.

The dates for the pradosham vrathams are as follows for Mumbai, India for the years 2009/2010

May09 6,22

June09 5,20

July09 4,20

August09 3,18

Spetember09 1,16

October09 1,15,31 (three days)

November09 14,30

December09 13,29

January10 12,28

February10 11,26

March10 13,27

April10 11,26

To get the maximium spiritual benefit, it is highly recommended to do ekadasi vratham for Lord Sri Vishnu and then pradosham.

Sincerely,

Kamlesh--- On Wed, 4/29/09, rithika chandnani <rk_chandnani wrote:

Dear all,Pradosh is not only a time of the day, it is also a Vrata observed by Shiva Bhaktas,Generally people observe Pradosha Vrata on every Trayodashi tithi (i.e. 13th Lunar day falling in Krishna and Shukla Pakshas) during Sandhya Kaala (ie. During or after sunset). The Lord of 13th Trayodashi Tithi is Kaama Deva whereas the Lord of the succeeding Tithi i.e. 14th Chaturdashi is Lord Rudra (Shiva) himself. The 14th day of the dark half of every month – is called Sivaratri or Masa – sivaratri. The one in the month of Magh (Feb-Mar) is called Mahasivaratri, since it is the greatest of all.Mala Mukherjee--- On Sat, 2/5/09, bhagvatjee <bhagvatjee > wrote:bhagvatjee <bhagvatjee >[om_namah_shivaya_ group] Re: Pradoshom_namah_shivaya_ group@ s.comDate:
