There goal was Sannidhanam and Shankranti no body used to count the days. Actually the Vrutham means from 16/ 17th November till they reach home after Shankranti Darshan. It was during this period the Temple Construction was started by PandalaRaja and Parsuramma installed the Deity on Shankranti Day. The barrest minimum must be 48 days
