Latha, you mentioned (below) learning vocabulary. How can one do

that? Do you know of a dictionary that might help?

3) Learn as much of the vocabulary of the Kavach as possible . It is

particularly suited to knowing the parts of the body in sanskrit .

For example - Chibukum means chin, bahu means arms etc ...

Namaste to all who are studying the Devi Kavacham and all those who

are not:

Here are a few notes taken from Swamiji's classes on the Chandi:

The kavach is a suit of armor. We put the vibrations of the Goddess

inside us, we fill our hearts with her vibrations. Then wherever we

go no other vibration can permeate our armor. It says in the Kavach

verse #43 "for the welfare of his or her own soul one should not take

a step out of the house without putting on the kavach."

The armor is a nyasa. Nyasa means to establish within. In various

pujas we establish mantras in our fingers and body as well. Some of

you may already be familiar with this practice in the Shiva and Durga

pujas.

Once we have placed the Goddess in various parts of our body if any

other vibration comes at us we just look inside and remember that the

Goddess resides within. Nothing can touch her and we don't have to be

influenced by any other vibration.

If one does not have much time in the morning for sadhana before

going to work, the Devi Kavacham is very beneficial to recite

and highly recommended.

Dear Latha,

What I hope to begin to approach is the idea of "kavace hrdi

samsthite", one in whose heart resides this armor. That would be the

most amazing thing for me...to have this kavaca internalized in my

heart. I have been chanting the Devi Kavacham since August, when it

was suggested to me by one of my Sri Vidya teachers. I am thinking

that all of us working on the Chandi Path together is a very

powerful thing, especially under the auspices of Shree Maa and

Swamiji. If we ever had a chance to "realize" any part of this text,

this would be a good time!

As we move along in the Chandi Path, I am just hoping to get my

tongue used to all of the twists and turns so that it becomes more

familiar to me...I remember when I was learning Lalitha Sahasranam,

just despairing of EVER learning it...now it is so familiar to me

and the parts that used to trip me up are now my favorites because

I'm still working on them. So, beginning the Chandi, I think...."Oh,

this is so daunting! So many verses!" but then I remember that every

text I have ever learned in Sanskrit, I felt the very same way about

at the beginning..."I'll never learn this! It's too hard! It's too

long!' etc. etc. The great thing about the sankalpa is that it

overrides all of those doubts and the great thing about doing this

as part of a group is that we can all help each other stay focused.

I've been wanting to learn the Chandi Path for a long time.....this

is it!

best,

sadhvi

Dear All,

I have been enjoying "immersing" myself in this one section. The

night of the first day that I chanted it I was blessed with a

beautiful dream with Shree Maa and Swamiji--such a gift! I love

Verse 8: "When She is remembered with devotion, all opposition ends

and immediately prosperity begins. For those who remember Her, the

Supreme Goddess protects them without a doubt". The most important

thing to do is remember Her, just remember! so great.

Love to All,

How are we all doing on the Kavach ....Here is one word that is

repeated over and over again and that word is "raksha" which means

"protection". Of course it comes with different case endings in

Sanskrit - raksha, rakshen, rakshed, rakshech etc... If anyone is

familiar with the case endings for Raksha , it will be great if you

can share with us.Well, I am chanting the Kavach as part of this

group sankalpa. I was thinking that we should each measure our own

progress with our own yardsticks . And I would love to know what each

of you hope to get out of the one week per chapterFor me, personally,

it is1) Chant the chapter atleast once a day2) Memorize ATLEAST one

verse from the chapter. So at the end of the week, if I am asked what

I got out of the Kavach - I can say ..."oh I know this verse ..."3)

Learn as much of the vocabulary of the Kavach as possible . It is

particularly suited to knowing the parts of the body in sanskrit .

For example - Chibukum means chin, bahu means arms etc ...4) And

personally very ambitious - to get to write atleast one of the verses

in sanskrit .What do you hope to get out of the week of Kavach ?

Please do share with the forum.

I hope you understanding my english.  Excuse-me because I'm in Brazil,

South America and here we speek portuguese.

This group is an excellente oportunity for us. We have chandi class,

and we see  the King of Good Thoughts"returned to his own kingdon and

way to lock our gates so She will be protect us removing our

dificulties.

I've had many intense dreams so far. None of Shree Maa and Swamiji;

but a dream of my old yoga teachers.

I'm interested to find out why people chant this massive text; from

my own experience.

I'd like to get some help slaying negative thoughts.

And I could use some 'armor!'

I love that image of you hitching a ride with Swamiji! How neat! And

getting to stay at his mother's house.

In my dream, I was in an inner room of a trailer. It had a window in

the door that I could see through. I was locked in. Every once in a

while Swamiji would come to visit. He would look through the outer

door which also had a window. Or he would come in and look in the

inner window. He was always very radiant and friendly. But he would

not unlock the door. Finally I found a small hidden button in the

center of the door. I pushed it and the door opened. Swamiji

arrived and looked very happy. He opened the outer door. We were in

the middle of a brightly colored ocean or sea. We swam and swam and

played in the water together. Totally free.

that is really nice, there is some wonderful imagery there, with the

inner door, renunciation, the locks, and finding the button at the

center ... the opening to the sea of life ...

ardis, i hope some day we get to meet ... ideally, at devi mandir!

Parvati,

Do we use the same mudra for the Devi Kavacham as in Durga

puja....and can we use this mudra while we are chanting the

text?

Maureen

Namaste to all who are studying the

Devi Kavacham and all those who

are not:

Here are a few notes taken from Swamiji's classes on the Chandi:

The kavach is a suit of armor. We put the vibrations of the

Goddess

inside us, we fill our hearts with her vibrations. Then wherever

we

go no other vibration can permeate our armor. It says in the

Kavach

verse #43 "for the welfare of his or her own soul one should not

take

a step out of the house without putting on the kavach."

The armor is a nyasa. Nyasa means to establish within. In various

pujas we establish mantras in our fingers and body as well. Some

of

you may already be familiar with this practice in the Shiva and

Durga

pujas.

Once we have placed the Goddess in various parts of our body if

any

other vibration comes at us we just look inside and remember that

the

Goddess resides within. Nothing can touch her and we don't have to

be

influenced by any other vibration.

If one does not have much time in the morning for sadhana before

going to work, the Devi Kavacham is very beneficial to recite

and highly recommended.

Re: Kavach

I've had many intense dreams so far. None of Shree Maa and Swamiji;

but a dream of my old yoga teachers.

I'm interested to find out why people chant this massive text; from

my own experience.

I'd like to get some help slaying negative thoughts.

And I could use some 'armor!'

dan

ps: anyone know if it's still sukla? Is it waxing or waning and

what's the waning term?

Following the full moon, it becomes Krisna paksa as the moon wanes.

The Chandi is chanted out of love for the Goddess. She is expert at

slaying negative thoughts especially as her devottees gain improved

concentration. If the Chandi seems too massive to you right now, why

not start out with the Durga Puja? It could probably dispell negative

thoughts for you. Armor can be found in the Kali, Advanced Shiva and

also the Chandi puja books.

Re: Kavach

that is really nice, there is some wonderful imagery there, with the

inner door, renunciation, the locks, and finding the button at the

center ... the opening to the sea of life ...

ardis, i hope some day we get to meet ... ideally, at devi mandir!

I am glad you enjoyed the dream. It seemed auspicious to me also.

Since the button was in the center of the door, maybe it was in the

center of my spiritual heart.

Dear Sanju,

Shukla pakshe is the fortnight that ENDS with the full moon.

And Krishna pakshe is the fortnight that ENDS with the new moon.

So in other words, the first day AFTER new moon, is the first day of

the bright fortnight which is shukla pakshe.

Similarly for Krishna Pakshe, is the first AFTER purnima and

continues for the fortnight and ends in amavasya/new moon.

No. Shukla Pakshe is the bright fortnight. It starts with the first

day after the New Moon and runs for 15 days to Purnima (the Full

Moon). This is the waxing of the moon, the moon is getting bigger.

The Krishna Pakshe is the dark fortnight. It starts with the first

day after Purnima and runs for 15 days to Amavasya, the new moon.

This is the waning of the moon, the moon is getting smaller.

Hi all. I've been in the background trying to learn Kavach. (I'm very

excited to have been exposed to Chandi Path which I believe has plenty

to keep me occupied for this lifetime, at least)

I recently was taught Gayatri Mantra by a mantra teacher, and it was

quite a revelation. The correct meter, articulation and intonation

combine to produce the vibration which does not occur scientifically if

all three are not present (IMHO). I realized that much of my Kirtan

activities, etc. were foolery. It's the old business of trying to do

something and actually doing it. (I realize also intention is VERY

important). This teacher explained that mantra is an ORAL TRADITION.

The way we were taught this single 32 beat mantra was by repeating a

single word back to teacher, one by one, until a phrase was built, then

repeating single phrase-then next phrase, etc. At the end of 1/2 hour

we were all actually chanting a credible Gayatri.

Would it be possible to take Chandi CD and develop a learning CD or

CD's. Would dovetail nicely with Swamiji's study guides. It might go

something like this: 1st word space 2nd word space; 1st two words

space or whatever--1st phrase space etc. So we have a chance to repeat

after teacher. I believe each line could be logged as a separate"

number", so that it could be looped on playback-or several lines could

be construed as a playlist.

My experience was that the learning speeds up exponentially in this way.

I'm unfamiliar with sound editing, but I'm told it's very easy with the

right software. If we divided the labor, we might be able to approach

the oral tradition's teaching methods.
