Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am studying Hinduism for one of my college classes. I have been interested in learning more about Hinduism for a while but I have not had the time to devote to it. This is the beginning of trying to gain a better understanding of this religion. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. 1. How does Hinduism provide an understanding to the meaning of life? (Why are we here? What is our purpose?) 2. What is the purpose/meaning of death? 3. What does a Hindu do to achieve a good life? 4. Is there an understanding of good and evil that helps guide relationships between people and their relationship with god/gods/goddess? 5. How does a follower receive guidance for the unknown and in decision making? Thank you to anyone who takes the time and answers these questions. Pankaja_Dasa
1. How does Hinduism provide an understanding to the meaning of life? (Why are we here? What is our purpose?) Inquire into the Supreme. 2. What is the purpose/meaning of death? Death is God. 3. What does a Hindu do to achieve a good life? Serve God in Personal Form. God is always a Person. But His body is sac-cid-ananada. Eternal, Blissful and Full of Knowledge. [KRSNA] 5. How does a follower receive guidance for the unknown and in decision making? The Spiritual master of one 'who has seen the truth'. I suggest read Bhagavad-gita as it is. For better understanding. Click my signature to read. Guest guest
1. How does Hinduism provide an understanding to the meaning of life? The purpose of our life is to seek the Ultimate Truth - to seek Reality, which is God. 2. What is the purpose/meaning of death? All living beings reincarnate until they achieve Self Realization, which why all of life (human or not) is sacred to Hindus. After one achieves self-realization, one will achieve moksha, or liberation from Earth and an eternal communion with God. 3. What does a Hindu do to achieve a good life? This is a difficult question to answer. There are so many paths to achieving Realization. I guess ultimately what ties them all together is the intense desire to seek the truth about life and God. Anyone who seeks the Truth will be granted it. 4. Is there an understanding of good and evil that helps guide relationships between people and their relationship with god/gods/goddess? First of all, Hinduism is not polytheistic. According to the Rig Veda, there is only one God, one Supreme Reality ("The truth is one but the sages call it by different names.") Second of all, I don't really believe in duality. There is no evil in the world. There is only good because God is everything and everywhere, always. The suffering in the world is caused by man's second nature, which causes him to depart from his inherent perfection. 5. How does a follower receive guidance for the unknown and in decision making? Through prayer, through meditation, through scholarly study of the Vedas, and through discussion with respected elders, we can recieve guidance in our life. Guest guest
Thank you for responding to my questions. Is there any sections of the Bhagavad-gita that anyone would recommend so I can understand the answers to my questions even mor ein context of the scripture.
