It was a part of hindu vedic dharma. But due to effect of kaliyuga , Now no one follows it . Adarsha widow is the one who follows the rules prescribed for widows. There are many rules for widows . Some are , not to talk with males , limitations to go outside of home , taking simple meal , shaving of Head etc . Shaving of head was done only to maintain social purity .
