Lucknow, March 24: Seeking to rake up a controversy, BJP leader Vinay Katiyar has claimed that the Taj Mahal in Agra was actually a Shiva temple built by Raja Jai Singh and named Tejo Mai Mahal.

"The Taj Mahal was, in fact, a Shiva temple and was built by Raja Jai Singh. Its name was Tejo Mai Mahal (shining palace)," Katiyar said here.

"This fact finds mention in the book Badshahnama by Abdul Hamid Lahori, a close associate of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan," he claimed.

Samajwadi Party leader and UP Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan's statement that the Taj Mahal was a graveyard "is only a half truth", Katiyar said adding, "It is no doubt a graveyard as Shah Jahan brought back the body of his wife Mumtaz Mahal from Burahanpur village, where she had died, and buried it in the temple after removing the Shiva Linga.”

“It (the Taj) actually belongs to us (Hindus) and we will do everything possible to reclaim it,” Katiyar said adding a Shankar Sena (Shiva Army) would soon be formed and 'Damrus' (Shiva's drum) distributed among the people to create awareness on this issue.

His statement came close on the heels of claims of ownership of the Taj by the Shia community and Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board, with the support of UP Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan to the 17th century architectural marvel.

Sounds like another fire brewing.

Not that I doubt it but it definately doesn't have the watermarks of a traditional Shiva temple.

If there is one thing the Persian empire was very talented at, it was architecture, they are truely brilliant designers and builders. Only problem was they always wanted to build them on the sites of their demolition of Hindhu temples.

This is all so stupid. Whether it is taj mahal or tejo mai mahal why should any one give a damn? These hindu leaders are hindu in the name only, they follow neither the shastra nor do they follow dharma and they are deluded and what they want is death of muslims. Their retrieval of "taj mahal" as "tejo mai mahal" would be killing the muslims who call it Taj Mahal.

You know what happened when Ayodhya temple pilgrims were involved with a fire accident? These losers all blamed muslims and killed/raped/tortured many of the innocent muslims in Gujurat. The government being majority "hindu" did absolutely NOTHING. IT HAS BEEN 3 YEARS AND THOSE CULPRITS STILL WALK FREE. It is truly a sad state of affairs, there is no dharma in that country.

After all, the Sunnis are claiming it to be their own Taj Mahal.

If anyone cared about history, they'd give a damn. To see Shah Jahan celebrated for erecting the Taj Mahal when it was already erected and he simply modified it would be wrong historically.

Either way, Shah Jahan shouldn't be celebrated for anything. He was barbaric, and people simply overlook the whole part about him maiming the people he had build it. If of course, that whole story about him erecting the building were true.

Whether you agree or not, I really don't give a damn, but in my perspective it is an accident and it is an accident that is caused by human ignorance and if those people(hindu activist groups) in India were going to do anything about it, they should have atleast console the families of those victims and may be try to do investigations to really find who the culprits are... but NO! you know what THEY DO?! GO TO A CALM MUSLIM NEIGHBORHOOD IN GUJURAT AND KILL ALL THE MUSLIM PEOPLE LIVING THERE. its really a human rights tragedy and you know what ? the government does not even send police support as they are calling the COPS FOR HELP. THE COPS JUST STAND THERE WHILE THESE PEOPLE KILL AND TORTURE MEN AND BOYS AND RAPE AND BURN MUSLIM WOMEN, ALL IN THE NAME OF THE "GOOD HINDU GOD RAMA" WHO IRONIcALLY SYMBOLIZES DHARMA, its really sick.

All thosee people were burned alived in the train and fires were ourposely caused by by the Muslim mob that had gathered waitng for them to return from Ayodhya.

Yes the response was barbaric but so was setting the fires to the train in the first place.

You words are not credible if you can't impartialy see both sides.

It is not right to say "its wrong that side A was bad" but "Side B was bad too", because then it will be like saying they were both even to each other. There was NO "fairness" with what happened to any side. Side A was burned by side B so side C got angry and burned side D and here Side B and Side C are at fault and the victims are Side A and D.

Sorry about the ABCD , but I hope you got what I was trying to say... the side C who are now the Hindu radicles are going to put up another fight and attack the innocent muslims to prove their point and muslim radicals will get their revenge on the common hindu man. One side has to put an end to it and to do that the common people have to curse each group B and C to hell.

We can't just blame one side when they both have guilt. Now the Muslims who burned the train probably felt justified because of some past wrong committed by some Hindus. Those Hindus probably felt justufied because they were getting revenge for an even earlier atrocity. This is the way of sectarian violence.

First thing is we need to save ourselves from sectarian thinking. When all the violence began over the Ayodhya site and the Mosque was burned down I believe, I remember one guest asking a Krsna devotee at a Sunday lecture what solution he thought would be just. He was expecting the devotee to answer from a Hindu perspective. But the devotee did not. Instead he said the solution is for there to be a Mosque and a Ram temple side by side on the site and the worshipers would be required to show tolerance to the other's way of worship.

But a sectarian fanatic can never accept this simple way of peaceful co-existence. One reason is they derive their personal energy and zest for living from the hatred they have for those that are different. To give up their "enemy vision" of "the other" would seem like giving up their lives. This is the effect of trying to draw life from hatred. You become a slave to the hatred itself.

That is 'one' reason Krsna wants us to give up our attachment to a particular religious sect and just surrender unto Him, and draw our life directly and solely from Him.

Do we really think it matters to God if someone prays to Him with their hands stretched outward, palms up in a humble stance of receiving His grace or if they place their palms together in the center of the chest in a posture of offering respect?

Why do we think the Lord is so shallow?

We all must get off this mundane plane of religious strife and learn to love each other as parts of God. All these so-called religious conflicts actually have nothing to do with religion. And it is not just in India. Look at ireland and protestants and Catholics or the Muslims with the Sunni and shi'a. Billions of people claim a religion path and yet no one has even the beginnings of true spiritual vision.

Muslims are known for their innocence, ahimsa, respect to the life of fellow human beings, tolerant to other religions.

It was the wish of the Kar sevaks to burn themselves up.

( I am sarcastic).

is always facing Mecca. the Taj Mahal does not.

It was also always square. the Taj is not. it is octagonal.

the muslim tombs were always having a low dome, suppressing echos. the Taj has a high dome, with sixteen seconds echo.

On the top of the Taj, stand Shiva's trident.

No muslim tomb has two stories. the Taj, as a temple of Shiva, has two levels - one for the worshipers and the lower sanctum for the Brahmanas, where in olden times a lingam was situated.

All shah Jahan ever did, was building the four 'minarets' at the corners, rip out the lingams and replace them with a sarcophagus.

VdK.

it's an insult to India for any religious sect to claim it was "theirs" all along.

Maybe it was a shiva temple, maybe not. But it no longer is a Shiva temple. Forget the past, because it only arouses anger over past injustices, causing us to perpetuate more injustice. It's better to leave it alone and just take it to be the pride of India. Not the pride of Muslims, the pride of Hindus, etc.

a survey of the taj mahal structure (1993) taking into account a study of hindu temples and islamic styles revealed that a conversion never happened

and if hindus would like to claim it

what would they convert it back to? - we would see then what an architectural mess you would make of it

if extremist hindus love it that much then they can have it

seems thus that they crave as much style as they can get

please note:although islamic architecture is amongst the finest in the world, the taj mahal has nothing to do with the practice of islamic religion, it is not a mosque or place of worship or school. it was simply built in islamic style because the king was muslim

TAJ MAHAL is not hindu or muslim or sikh :it is INDIAN and world treasure so ok now shut the f. up ignorants!

sounds like u is ignorant like hell so let me explain

muslim is original deen (faith) provided by god to mankind and revealed through the messengers (starting with Adam and including 'hindu' rama, krishna and moses jesus and ending with muhammad) to teach mankind. Hinduism like christianity and judaism was a corruption of original teachings and those ancestors who converted to islam did so out of recognition of truth.

over the years hinduism has become so corrupt that it allows for example worship of the penis (lingam) and live rats - like i said if u want the taj have it stop yo uneducated rant
