vrndavana, govardhana, jamuna-pulina, bon,

sei kuïje rasadika lila

sei brajera braja-jan, mata, pita, bandhu-gan,

boro citra, kemane pasarila

vidagdha, mridu, sad-gun, sushila, snigdha, korun,

tumi, tomar nahi doshabhas

Recuperating from surgery and still in pain, Srila Govinda Maharaj said these words, words spoken by Sri Radha long ago:

tabe je tomar man, nahi smare braja-jan,

se—amara durdaiva-vilas

na gani apana-duùkha, dekhi’ brajeshvari-mukha,

braja-janer hridoya bidore

kiba mara’ braja-basi, kiba jiyao braje asi’,

keno jiyao duùkha sahaibare?

tomar je anyo besh, anyo sanga, anyo desh,

braja-jane kabhu nahi bhay

braja-bhumi charite nare, toma na dekhile more,

braja-janer ki habe upay

How have you forgotten Vrndavan, Govardhan Hill, the bank of the Jamuna, the forest where you enjoyed your best times, and what to speak of your mother, father and many friends? “It is astounding! You are very cultured, gentle, well-behaved, softhearted and merciful. You really have no faults. Still, you cannot remember the people of Vrndavan. This is my unfortunate situation. I do not count my own misery, but I am pained when I see the face of mother Jashoda and the broken hearts of all the Brajabasis. Do you want to kill them, or do you want to enliven them by coming here? Or are they alive just to suffer? Now you dress differently and live a different life in the city and the Brajabasis have no atraction for you. They cannot give up this place and staying here they cannot see you and are dying. What is the solution for their lives?

O Chuta, Priyala, Panasa, Asana and Kovidara, O Jambu, Arka, Bilva, Bakula, Amra, Kadamba, Nipa and all you other plants and trees living by the banks of the Jamuna who have dedicated your very existence to the welfare of others, we have become mad, so please tell us where Krishna has gone.
