sumedh
Hare Krishna and dandavats mahak prabuji, her efforts would have been laudable but for her past record which put a question mark on her integrity. Her dealings with italian businessmen, citizenship issue (not that this matters much) etc. Please read this http://sify.com/news/politics/fullstory.php?id=13456082 for an illustration of the issues that we have with her becoming Prime Minister. Now that she has become a martyr and attained a "high moral ground" by refusing it, the next time Congress forms a government she can easily become the Prime Minister with any opposition non-consequential. theist
In America there is a law that states that no immigrant to the US can become President. This has become an issue because of the success of Arnold Swazenegger in becoming the govenor of California. He was a transplanted Austrian citizen. Guest guest
why immigrants should not become the leader of the country they immigrate to. Even if they left their home country, that does not mean they do not have loyalties to that country, that they do not have ties to that country. If they became leaders of the country they immigrate to, imagine what COULD happen? For instance, national policy and international policy could be changed to favor the race or nation that the leader is from. Naturally, there are checks and balances to everything and this could be somewhat limited, but think of this: If the U.S. has an Israeli spy in the Pentagon who's influencing U.S. policy on Israel, and the spy is NOT even the President of the U.S. (!) imagine the effect it would have if an immigrant had become the President.
