Why am I really here in this material world of birth and death?

from a technical point of view: because you were envious of sri krsna and you wanted to be god. Being impossible to have two gods in vaikunta, krsna has created for you this world where you can live in the illusion to be the god, the proprietor, the enjoyer.

 

From MY point of view, my duty is to see you as a vaishnava, completely sat, cit, ananda. You're eternally liberated.. but due to your infinite mercy, you have come in this world to save me from the cycle of birth and death...
