Bawa Lal Dayal Ji Maharaj was born on Monday, the second day of 'Shukla Paksh' (Bright Fortnight) of Magh Vikrami Sambat 1412 to Smt. Krishna Devi and Lala Bhola Ram, a pious couple, residing in village Amli of Lahore (now in Pakistan). At the time of birth, His zodiacal position revealed that He was incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Named Laal (Ruby), He was very sharp and possessed exceptional power of mastering in one day what other children could do in years. The child was nursed to boyhood with deep love and care. But soon he displayed signs of dispassion and detachment from the worldly pleasures and longed for solitude in pursuit of Truth roaming in deep forests, mountains and on the banks of rivers among animals and birds.

One day He happened to see from some distance Swami Chaitanya Ji Maharaj cooking food in accentric way. Swami Ji put an earthern pot filled with water and rice on an improvised 'chullah' formed by holding his both the feet together and fire underneath was instantaneously materialized by 'yoga shakti'. After the food was served to the ascestics, the earthern pot was thrown away. Young Lal rushed to pick up the broken pieces of the pot and took few left over grains as 'prasad' and promptly slipped in trance. He realized that He had found the Master He had been longing for. In the very first Meeting, Swami ji initiated Lal ji into Sanyan and told 'God is One', keep chanting 'Hari Om Tat Sat' incessantly, never get enmeshed in worldly pleasures but take refuge in the lotus feet of His Guru. Swami ji commanded Lal ji to fetch 'Gopi-chandan' from Dwarika which he did and presented to His revered Guru with humbleness. Pleased Guru administered some Gopi chandan mixed with sacred duty on the Lal Ji's 'Lalaat' (forehead). Impressed by his disciple's Divine Wisdom and intense love, Swami ji found in Lal worthy disciple.

One day both Master and the disciple, on way back from Nagar Kot, suddenly stopped at a spot from where another path led to different direction. Swami Ji called upon Lal Ji to opt for either of the two ways and proceed to that particular one to deliver the message and mission of righteousness to the masses. Bawa Lal ji mostly humbly parted with and set forth on his mission instilling in people the spark of spiritual awakening. After visiting all places of pilgrimage, Bawa Lal ji made a forest area of Saharanpur His abode where he stayed for one hundred years. Hundreds of thousands of people became his devotees. The then Emperor gifted to Bawa Lal Ji 900 bighas of land for the Ashram called Bawa -Lal-Ji-Ka-Bara. A free mass feeding (Langar) is still being run there. Bawa Lal ji loved taking dip in sacred Ganga and this was His morning routine He made to and fro travel to Haridwar with His yogic powers. One day he could not make it and mother Ganga Herself gushed out from a spot near Lal ji's feet. He bathed in that pond. It was on Ma Gange's advice that Bawa Lal Ji left Saharanpur for Punjab and made his next abode Kalanaur. Thousands of people thronged to join Lal ji's prayers, 'sankeertans' and spiritual discourse sessions and became his ardent devotees and followers. One day Bawa Lal Ji found Dhyan Dass one of His ardent devotees sitting before Him in serious mood. Bawa Lal ji made out that Dyan Dass was thinking of making a hermitage for Him. Bawa Lal ji pointed out towards a secluded place at 10 km distance from Kalanaour suitable for Ashram. Ashram was soon built and named Dhyanpur by Bawa Lal ji Himself. This Ashram is now a Holy place of pilgrimage where wishes of devotees are fulfilled and prayers are answered. Thousands of people from all over the world visit Lal Dwara at Dhyanpur to obtain Lord's blessings. He Shrine is doing immense good to the mankind. Childless couples are blessed with children. Deadly diseases are cured. Impurities vanish. The visit endows mental peace, elation and love of the Lord of Dhyanpur. There are hundreds of Lal Dwaras all over the world humming with spiritual activities and serving good causes.

Among the 22 disciples prominent among them were Shri Dhyan Dass, Shri Gurmukh Lal and Shri Kanshi Ram. They were profoundly devoted to their Guru and worked as His missionaries spreading the Master's message far and wide.

Bawa Lal Ji said that through Yoga, equilibrium of mind is attained, through Dispassion the worldly temptations are vanquished, through knowledge the veil of ignorance is removed and Divine Wisdom dawns and through Devotion love of God established. By following any one out of these, an aspirant can swim across the ocean of Samsara and become one with Him subject to the grace of perfect Guru.

Source of all Creation is 'Naad Brahm' (primordial Vibration).

Aspirant's devotion bears fruit if he has unflinching faith in his Master. Soul is eternal and unaffected by attributes of nature. Attributes of nature (Gunas) are like waves of a river which rise and merge in the river itself.

In self-realization state, the soul dwelling in the body is like a king sitting on the throne. In the stage of ignorance, the same soul is unknown-king-guest in some stanger's house. Those who have controlled the mind are unaffected by joys and sorrows liberate themselves and become Jeevan Mukta like a fried seed that never sprouts. Difference between pure and impure souls is like Rama's Army soldiers and Ravana's Army soldiers killed in Lankan war. The former could be revived to life whereas the latter could not be although nector was sprayed on all the bodies lying in the battle-field.

Compassionate (Dayal) Lord Bawa Lal ji known as Lal Dass, Faqir Lal, Lal Dayal, Swami Lal, Baraji Lal is beloved of his devotees and always with them everywhere and in all situations. Baba Lal ji lived in body for 300 years.

Attached is a picture / painting of Sri Baba Lal ji.

This pic was made by the court painter of Dara Shikoh the prince of Shahjahan who had a few discussions with Satguru Shri Baba Lala ji! His questions about God relization and human life were also recorded at the time into Farsi that later trfanslated into Hindi. This book is also available. Shri Baba Lal did twice complete kayakalpa of hos body throug yog shakti and lived for 300 years. Some of his disciples did many miracles to save the people from catastrophes. This included reviving a young boy to life after he was dead. Though Shri Baba Lalji had all the top eight riddhi-siddhis and other powers, he was against the show of miracles as he considered them as a hindrance to spiritual growth and was a true Vaishnava Yogi and was also related to Ramananda Sampradaya. Lord Ramachandra appeared before him and blessed him benevolently. He was a unique yogi and poorna Sadguru, one of his kind.

And after my parents were having pproblems with children, I was born with his blessings some 35 years ago.

Life History

Shri 1008 Bawa Lal Dayal ji Maharaj are also known as the Paramhans Yogishwar Satguru Bawa Lal Dayal Ji Maharaj in the world.

The brief history of his life is that he was a saint who born at a Town named Kasur, District Lahore, of Punjab province of the undivided India. He was of a Kshatri varn. His sub-cost was Dhawan. His father Sh. Bhola Mal was a Patwari in the regime of Turk Emperor. The name of his respected mother was Smt. Krishna Devi.

At that time the date of births were registered either in the Hijri Era or in Bikrami Era. Muslims used to write their date of birth in Hijri Era and the Hindu were writing their date of births in Bikrami Samat. At that time the date of births were not written in Christian Era in India.

Date of Birth and Date of Death

Being a Hindu his date of birth was registered in Bikrami Era. So according to the available record Shri Bawa Lal Ji Maharaj were born on the DOOJ of Shukla Paksh, Magh Month of Bikrami Samat of 1412.

There is a difference of approximately 57 years between the Christian Era and the Bikrami Era. For example the bikrami Samat of 2062 started from 13 th April, 2005. It indicates that the difference between the two eras is approximately 57 years.

Now if we minus 57 years from the bikrami samat 1412 it comes to 1355 A.D. The Magh month (known as margshish month also) normally comes either in the end of January or in the beginning of month of February. It is thus clear that Shri Bawa Lal Dayal Ji Maharaj were born in the winter season.

The year of death of Shri Bawa Lal Ji is Kartik Shudi Dasmi of 1712 Bikrami. Similarly if we deduct 57 years from 1712 the year of death according to A.D. Era is 1655. The Kartik month normally fall in the end of month of October or in the beginning of November. This date fall 8 days after the Bhiya Dooj. Ten days after the Deepawali utsav.

The date of death is fully confirmed as this day is celeberated at Village Rampur Haler, Tehsil Dasuya, District Hoshiarpur. Moreover the Sharadh of Shri Bawa Lal ji organized at Bawa Lal Ji Gaddi, of Hafizabad now at Panipat.
