HYDERABAD: In another prayer for rains, nearly 250 people participated in a jatra organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) from the Necklace Road to Secretariat.

The group lead by His Holiness Bhakti Vikas Swamy Maharaj chanted “Hare Krishna, Hare Rama all along the way.

“Chanting of Lord Krishna’s name by his devotees will make him happy, and when the Lord is happy he will grant the wishes made by his devotees and alleviate their troubles. The troubles for Lord Krishna’s devotees in the scorching summer are unbearable heat and lack of water. So He will mitigate our suffering by sending down water in the form of rain,” a devotee, B Nitin Raj, told The Times of India.

HYDERABAD, India (AP) -- Sunstroke and dehydration claimed another 160 lives in a southern Indian state, raising the death toll from a two-week heat wave to nearly 800, a relief official said.

Temperatures rose as high as 48 degrees Celsius (118.2 degrees Fahrenheit) and meteorologists promised no relief from the heat wave for another two days in Andhra Pradesh state, the state's chief relief official, D.C. Roshaiah, said Saturday.

Last year, a heat wave reached 50 degrees (122 F) and killed more than 1,000 people in the state, most of them elderly.

Hundreds of people were being treated for dehydration and sunstroke, complaining of high fevers and vomiting at hospitals in 20 of 23 districts, Roshaiah said. A total of 795 people have died in the heat wave so far, he said.

"We have run out of fluids to be administered to these patients and authorities are rushing supplies," said Kotaiah Naik, a hospital administrator. "We have been receiving at least 40 patients with sunstroke everyday for the past 15 days."

The heat has also taken a toll on the state's poultry industry, with at least 1.4 million chickens dying.

Agriculture has also been severely affected because of acute water shortages.

HYDERABAD: Thousands of Muslims performed Namaz-e-Istesqa, a special prayer for rains at the Miralam Idgah near Miralam tank on Sunday. The special prayers were organised by the Sadar Majlis Ulema-e-Deccan Hyderabad, an organisation of Ulema.

Moulana Abdullah Qureshi of Mecca Masjid performed the duty of imam for the prayers. Later, vice-chancellor of Jamia Nizamia Moulana Mufthi Khaleel Ahmed addressed the gathering.

Namaz-e-Istesqa — which used to be performed by Prophet Mohammed to overcome drought — is an effective special prayer, according to Muslim scholars. The procedure of this namaz is different as it is a “nafeel” namaz — the prayer to grant a wish.

People wear old clothes during this special prayer, as they believe that God will shower mercy and sympathies on people if their demeanour is simple.

After the special namaz, people stand up and raise their hands so that the palm faces the ground for “Dua” — final session of prayer, while during the daily namaz people sit and raise their hands so that the palm faces the sky.

MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, Wakf Board chairman Mohammed Saleem and several ulema and scholars participated in the special prayers.

This is one reason we don't chant for results other than Krsna's pleasure, ideally. If we don't see immediate results according to our petitioning then doubt may creep in.

So many atheists say things like "I prayed to God that my son not die in this war, but he did." Therefore they conclude there is no God. We must be caeful here.

2 yrs ago we believe we helped end a more than year long drought by continuous kirtan, bhajan & classes 4am-10pm. It began raining shortly after.

Maybe our singing was so bad demigods figured the only way to shut us up was...

In any event, even if they had not begun showering, such intense musical spiritual expression was time well-spent and fun to boot.

Showers in Hyderabad bring hope...

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/cms.dll/html/uncomp/articleshow?msid=14861

HYDERABAD: The pre-monsoon showers which parts of the city witnessed on Monday held out hope on the march of the monsoon. The slight showers brought the mercury levels down from the 40 degree Celsius mark after 36 days.

The temperature in the city on Monday was 39.1 degrees Celsius and the rainfall recorded 0.4 millimetres.

In one of the longest heat spells which enveloped the city, the highest recorded temperature was 43.9 degrees Celsius on June 1.

“The monsoon should hit the city in the next three or four days,” meteorological department director C V V Bhadram told The Times of India. And in what could be a comforting thought, “the temperature usually does not rise once pre-monsoon showers are experienced in a place,” he said. Parts of the state like Rayalaseema, Chittoor and Anantapur too have been receiving pre-monsoon showers for the last two or threedays.

But in isolated places in Telangana and coastal AP, the heatwave conditions continue for couple of more days, he said.

However, in spite of the pre-monsoon showers and drop in temperatures, the number of deaths due to sunstroke continued to rise and crossed the 1,400 figure with 84 fresh cases being reported on Monday.

The necklace road is cool, The first time I went to india with my dad, one year ago, I saw it! it was fun. They have a big buddha statue there.

They need hare krishna chanting there, there have been many terrible things going on there lately.

When i went there, I heard an actress named prathusha was raped on the necklace road, its a dangerous place. we have to watch out for terrorists in that city.

This is the clear proof that we are living in the age of kali by my view
