VHP wants India to back US war on Iraq

New Delhi, Feb 11. (UNI): The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today said the Vajpayee Government should fully support the U.S. war on Iraq as this would weaken the radical Islamic forces that pose a danger to the world civilisation, particularly the Hindu civilisation.

 

"Today the biggest threat to the world is from radical Islam," VHP International General Secretary Praveenbhai Togadia told a press conference here.

 

Claiming that the U.S. war against Iraq was a war between the world civilisation and the Jehadis and fundamentalist Muslims, Togadia said India would be the worst sufferer if it did not support America now.

 

He said India was jeopardising its economic interest by opposing the U.S. plans to attack Iraq. In fact supporting America at this juncture would be a good move in diplomacy.

 

"Baghdad could be a way through which India can rein in Pakistan and the fundamentalist Muslims of the Middle East trying to wage a jehad," Dr Togadia said.

 

"India can also benefit economically when Iraq rebuilds itself after the destruction of the Saddam regime," he said

 

He urged the Centre not to repeat the mistake committed by the Gujral Government in 1990 when it supported Iraq during the Gulf war.

 

Thousands of Indians working in Kuwait at that time had to return leaving behind everything, including their savings, he said.

Out of curiosity, what are the main political parties in India, and what are the big issues in India. For instance, in the U.S. these two questions would be answered perhaps as: Democrats vs. Republicans; national security, taxes, abortion, health care etc.…

Indian politics? huh! Its like people driving a mercedes car without knowing how to drive it! The largest democracy is being handled by people who serve only for their own selfish interests w/o any concern for the people. There is nothing like a single majority party. They form coalitions with their own rivals just to form the quorum and occupy the seat. You will find political parties in every street/village you go!. some are listed here. You can see enough nepotism, redtapism, corruption, caste based reservation, and what not?

anyway, the major political parties are BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and Congress .

In anycase, it seems to change for better with the introduction of technology in the governance. It is happening now in some states. Change has started from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka etc... The last one to change will be BIHAR (may be at the end of this yuga !)

Thanks. In the U.S. we have many parties, but due to the winner take all approach, we end up only with 2 basic parties. I find this situation to be very good in that it results in less change and much slower change. Essentially all parties have to try to be moderate, and control their radical elements. In many countries parties get proportional control. This is advantageous to the radicals. So you get crazy environmentalists with 1% of congress, and 2% communist, and 5% Nazi etc.... In the U.S. these types of crazies would never get anywhere, or have any voice in decision making.

 

I'll check out the links you gave. What would you say are the main issues in India?

Surely if 2% of the population vote communist or 5% vote nazi then that is the will of that percentage and they have every right to be represented. Besides ultimately theyll balance eachother out.
