When we do happen to meet such a nice soul it behooves us to be respectful. At least to the level of ordinary materialists. You know the ones we always seem to feel so superior to. But there is only one right path to reach the goal, surrender to a bonafide representative and your spiritual life is perfect. One need not read all those books or be a good debater, all one has to do is be a humble follower and concentrate on that path as against being over critical with others.
