Whom madhurya rasa? For Radha?

I speak about the basic aspect. I here was not examined part. Devotion for Radha it is dasya or sakhya, it is not madhurya. Therefore if you madhur'ya of bkhaktas, then necessary to speak about Krishne. Like Rupa Gosvami.

Krisna, Krisna, but when you do understand? Radha-Krisna, not Radha-Radha it is apa.

"Devotion for Radha it is dasya or sakhya, it is not madhurya."

The above statement from Kailasa is simply not correct. In fact, Radha-dasi manjaris are experiencing madhurya of the highest and purest order. Their personal relationship with Srimati Radharani is the most intimate connection possible with the Supreme Truth. Unfortunately, this subject matter is mostly understood by many present and former ISKCON followers. Madhava is leaving for Braj tomorrow so he will likely not be able to reply. The only other devotee that I know is capable of confirming and clarifying this scripturally is Jagat. I may post something from one of Dr. OBL Kapoor's books, "Lord Caitanya and Raganuga Bhakti" [Manjari Bhava], later.

It is never too late for yet another post on the theology of manjari-bhava.

Rupa Gosvami defines manjari-bhava, also known as bhavollasa-rati, as follows in his Bhakti-Rasamrita-Sindhu:

saJcArI syAt samAno vA kRSNa-ratyAH suhRd-ratiH |

adhikA puSyamANA ced bhAvollAsA ratiH ||2.5.128||

If the love experienced for Sri Krishna and Srimati Radharani is equal, the affection for Radha is called suhrid-rati. This is a wave (sancari-bhava, transitory feeling) in the sthayi-bhava (foundational feeling) of some sakhis. If one's love for Radha exceeds the love for Krishna and is ever-nourished, it is called bhavollasa-rati.

The mood of the manjaris is classified into this unique category of mood in the analysis of bhakti-rasa. Another name for this is Radha-snekadhika (or sakhi-snehadhika), those whose affection for Radha is prominent. This we know as manjari-bhava, the cherished treasure of Sriman Mahaprabhu in the Gaudiya sampradaya.

One unique characteristic of the manjaris is that they have no desire for sambhoga (union) with Krishna. They only desire to serve Sri Radha in Her amorous sports with Her beloved. This is echoed throughout the writings of the Gosvamis, perhaps most splendidly in the writings of Sri Raghunatha Das Gosvamipad.

Hence, although in general Sri Krishna is the object of love, in this special case love for Radha predominates over and above the love for Krishna. As the manjaris are one category of sakhis (to be precise, two of the five categories), they are classified in the realm of madhurya-rasa. Certainly they are the dasis, maidservants, of Radha, but nevertheless they are of madhurya-rasa as they share the mood of their svamini (mistress) Sri Radha. They live in bhava-tadatmya, in a unity of feelings, with Her.

Dear Guest, I just uploaded three new discourses on the 26th verse of Radha Rasa Sudhanidhi. These three describe Sri Radha's being vaidagdhya-sara, the essence of cleverness. [ http://www.raganuga.com/lectures/ ]

Intimacy of friendship necessitates close sharing of emotional moods. The gopis' service is in the perfection of their love. Love entails oneness with the beloved. Radha-dasi manjaris are one with Radhika in Her love for Krsna, but their enjoyment lies solely in seeing their Divine Mistress pleased by Her romantic endeavors with Him, not in attempting to establish their own romances.

They are always engaged in making various complex arrangements for the most intimate meetings between the Divine Couple and Krsna is ever eager to maintain their favor, as the sole means to gain the association of His Beloved that he so ardently craves.

The greatest pleasure of Radha-dasi manjaris is to somehow achieve Their union and the thought of meeting Krsna to enjoy Him themselves never enters their minds. They suffer separation with Radha and support Her sympathetically in all circumstances, nor can they contemplate any happiness outside of Her's.

***Radha-dasi manjaris are one with Radhika in Her love for Krsna

Yes, it is all right. /images/graemlins/smile.gif They expansions Radha in mood Radha. Mood Radha is Krisna. Only if we attempt to obtain personal "love", the this mood of gopi, but not manjhari.

Srila Prabhupada perfect preach in Krisna lila and gaura lila. It is wery wery mathure exelent preachings. Only ... things SP is Vaikuntha or only Nityananda blessings. SP is Lord Caitanya mood - mahabhava, pure highest prema bhakti. "gaura vani" - it is not only Nityananda blessings, no, he is avatara Lord Caitanya.

Sridhara Swami at least I could understand that that o SP. All another be deep kanistha adhikaris. SP teach all world prema bhakti, now people do not understand mood Lord Caitanya. In this way all another books it is way for books SP. Through SP will be extended the glory all acaryas, no other way. Prabhupada bhagavan prema bhakti and last word prema bhakti.

In fact, Radharani is the internal potency of Sri Krsna, and She eternally intensifies the pleasure of Sri Krsna. Impersonalists cannot understand this without the help of a mahд-bhдgavata devotee. The very name Radha suggests that She is eternally the topmost mistress of the comforts of Sri Krsna. As such, She is the medium transmitting the living entities’ service to Sri Krsna.

Srila Prabhupada: Similarly, Krsna being the Supreme Personality of Godhead, as soon as we think of Krsna, this means all the energies of Krsna. That is complete by saying, “Radha-Krsna.” Radha represents all the energy of Krsna. And Krsna is the Supreme Lord. So when we speak of Krsna, the living entities are also included because the living entities are energies, different energies of Krsna—superior energy. So when this energy is not serving the energetic, that is material existence.

The enjoyer is Krsna. Enjoyer is Krsna. Just like Krsna in Vrndrvana, as we sung this song, jaya Radha-mдdhava... Jaya Radha-mдdhava kuпja-bihдrй. He is enjoying in Vrndavana. His only feature is... That is the real picture of God: simply enjoying. Bhoktдraа yajпa-tapasда sarva-loka-maheзvaram. That is the real picture of God. The Vrndavana-lila of Krsna is the perfect presentation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He’s simply enjoying. And all the inhabitants of Vrndavana, the gopis, the cowherd boys, Mahдrдja Nanda, Yaзodд, everyone is simply anxious how to make Krsna happy. They have no other business. The inhabitants of Vrndavana has no other business than to satisfy Krsna, and Krsna has no other business. Yaзodд-nandana brajajana-raпjana. He’s acting as the little son of Yaзodд, and His only business is how to please the inhabitants of Vrndavana.

Prabhupada: So this is the—sit down—original nature of Krsna, original nature of Krsna. He is Radha-Mдdhava. He is the lover of Srimati Radharani. And kuпja-vihдrй, always enjoying the company of the gopis within the bushes of Vrdavana forest. Radha-mдdhava kuпja-vihдrй. So He’s not only lover of Radharani, but braja-jana-vallabha. The whole residents of Vrndavana, they love Krsna. They do not know anything else. They do not know whether Krsna is God, or not; neither they are very much harassed, that “I shall love Krsna if He is God.” “He may be God or He may be whatever He is. It doesn’t matter, but we love God, Krsna.” That’s all. That is called unnalloyed love.

Being always absorbed in the ecstasy of Srimati Radharani, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu felt the same separation from Krsna that Srimati Radharani felt when Krsna left Vrndavana and went to Mathura. This ecstatic feeling is very helpful in attaining love of God in separation. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has taught everyone that one should not be overly anxious to see the Lord, but should rather feel separation from Him in ecstasy. It is actually better to feel separation from Him than to desire to see Him face to face.

This conjugal love attains its highest perfection in Srimati Radharani’s love for Krsna. He next described the position of Srimati Radharani and the transcendental mellows of love of God. Srila Ramananda Raya then recited a verse of his own concerning the platform of ecstatic vision, technically called prema-vilдsa-vivarta.

The gopis, Radharani, they are expansion of the spiritual energy of Krsna. Don’t think they are ordinary women. They are Krsna. Зaktiщ зaktimator abhedaщ. They are not different from Krsna. But to give Krsna pleasure, Krsna expands Himself by His spiritual energy, дnanda hladini, spiritual energy, sandinй hlдdinй. That is the expansion of His pleasure potency.

Directly we don’t approach Krsna. Gopй-bhartur pдda-kamalayor dдsa-dдsanudдsa. Therefore in Vrndavana you will see everyone is praising Radharani because Radharani is very quickly pleased. And as soon as Radharani is pleased, Krsna is automatically pleased. This is the process.

But Vaiслava philosophy is so nice that instead of becoming one with the Supreme, they want to become the father of the Supreme. This is Vaisnava philosophy. Nandдtmдja. Rasika-зekhara. This is also a pleasure. Krsna wants to be subordinate to His devotee as son so that He may be punished. He is punishing everyone, but He wants to be punished also. That is His pleasure. And who will punish Him? His father and mother, superior. Or superior lover, Radharani, can punish Him.

Therefore Krsna is the Supreme God. Krsnas tu bhagavдn svayam. It is confirmed in the Srimad-Bhagavatam that He is the Supreme Personality, original Personality of Godhead. He is nobody’s under control. Even He was not controlled by His supreme lover Radharani. Radharani is considered... The gopis are considered the topmost lover of Krsna. But when Krsna decided to leave Vrndavana, oh, they began to cry. They blocked the way. Krsna didn’t care, went away. Went away. He didn’t care even. So much dear Radharani. They became blind, crying, crying, crying, crying, whole life. But Krsna never returned. Never returned. He sent His message, He sent His letter, that “I am very sorry, but...” That is God. He is not controlled by anything. Anything. That is Krsna. Krsnas tu bhagavдn svayam.

Because Krsna and His energy appeared simultaneously, people have generally formed two groups—the saktas and the Vaisnavas—and sometimes there is rivalry between them.

This is confirmed in Govinda-lilamrta (10.17): “Although manifest, happy, expanded and unlimited, the emotional exchanges between Radha and Krsna can only be understood by the damsels of Vraja or by their followers.” Just as no one can understand the expansion of the spiritual energy of the Supreme Lord without His causeless mercy, no one can understand the transcendental sex life between Radha and Krsna without following in the footsteps of the damsels of Vraja. The personal associates of Radharani are called sakhis, and Her near assistants are called manjaris. It is very difficult to express their dealings with Krsna because they have no desire to mix with Krsna or to enjoy Him personally. Rather, they are always ready to help Radharani associate with Krsna. Their affection for Krsna and Radharani is so pure that they are simply satisfied when Radha and Krsna are together. Indeed, their transcendental pleasure is in seeing Radha and Krsna united. The actual form of Radharani is just like a Srieper embracing the tree of Krsna, and the damsels of Vraja, the associates of Radharani, are just like the leaves and flowers of that Srieper. When a Srieper embraces a tree, the leaves and flowers as well as the Srieper automatically embrace it.

Brief review:

What is the meaning of worshiping and singing prayers for Srimati Radharani as the previous and actual acaryas do?

Is it apa siddhanta as one proposed, or is it bona fide as others proposed?

1.1 Amongst the raganuga sadhakas only those who specifically follow the internal mood of Sri Rupa Manjari are rupanugas.

1.2 Rupanuga sadhakas are those who with

the external body follow the process of bhajana as shown by Srila Rupa Gosvami, and simultaneously with their internally conceived spiritual body follow the moods of Sri Rupa Manjari as she eternally serves Sri Radha Krsna in Vraja.

1.3 Srila Narottama Thakura says

Sri rupa manjari padasei mora sampada

sei mora bhajana pujana

sei mora pranadhana sei mora abharana sei mora jivanera jivana

The lotus feet of Srila Rupa Manajari are my supreme wealth.

To meditate upon and serve those lotus feet are my topmost methods of bhajana and puja.

They are a treasure more precious to me than life itself.

They are the ornament of my life. Not only that, they are the very life of my life.

1.4 Sri Rupa Gosvami says in Sri Stava mala

Amala kamala kantim nila vastram sukeshim shashadhara sama vaktram khanjanaksim manojnam stana yuga gata kantam muktadama diptam kishorim vraja pati suta kantam radhikam ashraye ham

I take shelter of Srimati Radhika, whose complexion is like that of a spotless lotus flower, who is attired in blue cloth, whose hair is very beautiful, whose face is like the full moon, whose charming, restless eyes are like khanjarita birds (wagtails), upon whose breasts rests a radiant pearl necklace, who is eternally youthful, and who is the dear most lover of the son of Nanda Maharaja.

1.5 Srila Raghunath das Gosvami says in Sri Stavavali

bhajami radham aranvinda netram smarami radham madhura smitasyam

vadami radham karuna bharardram tato mamanyasti gatir na kapi

I worship Radha who has lotus eyes, I remember Radha who has a sweet smile, an I speak of Radha who is MELTED WITH COMPASSION karuna bharardram.

There is nothing else for me. She is my life and soul.

1.6 Prayer from Sri Prabodhananda Sarasvati (in Radha Rasa Sudha Nidhi)

yat kinkarishu bahushah khalu kaku vani

nityam parasya purushya shikhanda mauleh

tasyah daka rasa nidher vrishabhanu jayas

tat kel kunja bhavanangana marjani syam

O daughter of Vrishabhanu Maharaja,

O ocean of rasa!

The Supreme Bhagavan, the source of all avataras who wears a peacock in His hair,

falls at the feet of Your MAIDSERVANTS and

propitiates them with many humble and griefstricken words

to be allowed entrance into Your kunja where You engage in playful amorous pastimes.

If only I could become one stick in the broom used by Your sakhis to clean Your delightful grove, I would consider my life a success.

1.7 One should not mistake the worshipers of maha maya in her different aspects as Durga, and so on, which are called shaktas

with the worshipers of Srimati Radharani which are bhaktas in the stage of raga anuga, respectively raga atmika.

Re: Lord Krsna and Lord Gaura - oneness and difference:

"This truth: that Lord Gaura and Lord Krsna are simultaneously one and different from each other, is a very confidential secret."

Some may realize more quickly than others. Nevertheless, we are committed to remain here birth after birth, as required in the service of Lord Sri Caitanya's sankirtan movement. Truth is, we've only just begun and each of us will most likely have many roles to play.

'If one asks about the origin of love of Krsna,

the answer is that the origin is in Srimati Radharani alone. Who is the most dear friend of Krsna?

The answer again is Srimati Radharani alone.

No one else.

Srimati Radharani's hair is very curly, Her two eyes are always moving to and fro, and Her breasts are firm. Since all transcendental qualities are manifest in Srimati Radharani,

She alone is able to fulfill all the desires of Krsna.

No one else.

When Sri Caitanya gave His association to Venkata Bhatta, what did he preach? He preached the prema following in the footsteps of the gopis.

nibhrta-marun-mano-'ksa-drdha-yoga-yujo hrdi yan-

munaya upasate tad arayo 'pi yayuh smaranat

striya uragendra-bhoga-bhuja-danda-visakta-dhiyo

vayam api te samah samadrso 'nghri-saroja-sudhah

" 'Great sages conquer the mind and senses by practicing the mystic yoga system and controlling the breath. Thus engaging in mystic yoga, they see the Supersoul within their hearts and ultimately enter into impersonal Brahman. But even the enemies of the Supreme Personality of Godhead attain that position simply by thinking of the Supreme Lord. However, the damsels of Vraja, the gopis, being attracted by the beauty of Krsna, simply wanted to embrace Him and His arms, which are like serpents. Thus the gopis ultimately tasted the nectar of the lotus feet of the Lord. Similarly, we Upanisads can also taste the nectar of His lotus feet by following in the footsteps of the gopis.' "

SB 10.87.23

Why did He preach gopi prema?

Because Venkata Batta was able to understand this.

And Later Venkata Bhatta and His bother Prabhodananda Sarasvati by the Mercy of Sri Caitanya left aside vaidhi bhakti and took to the path of raga marga.

Later Sri Prabhodananda Sarasvati wrote this werse

yat kinkarishu bahushah khalu kaku vani

nityam parasya purushya shikhanda mauleh

tasyah daka rasa nidher vrishabhanu jayas

tat kel kunja bhavanangana marjani syam

Commentary from somebody

It is level ananda it is not material servise - "ananda" for materialists. It is level spiritual love, not political sermon.

As followers of Sri Caitanya we have goals in long run and goals in short run.

But what is our prayojana?

Sri Prayojana adhi deva pranama

Sriman rasa rasarambhi vamshivat tata sthitaH

Karshan venu svanair gopir gopinathah shirye stu naH

Sri Gopi natha, who originated the trasncendental mellow of the rasa dance always stands beneath the Vamshi vat tree, attracting all the kishori gopis with the sound of His flute, thereby showering me with auspiciousness.

We have to know our goal.

And to attain this goal we have to know abhideya (the process to attain it).

bhajanera mydhye sresta nava vidhi bhakti

krsna prema krsna dita dhare maha shakti

tara madhye sarva shrestha nama sankirtana

nir apa radhe nama laile paya prema dhana.

One should not change prayojana with abhideya.

It is level ananda it is not material servise.

MATERIAL service?

Maybe vishrambhena gurau seva.

Transcendetal loving service to guru and vaishnavas.

-----------b) SANCHARI -BHAVA- RUPA which is vishada or despondency has 2 forms:

-----------------------prema - the fully blossomed pure love of God developed through the stages of sneha, mana, pranaya, raga, anuraga, bhava, mahabhava.

The sanchary-bhavas arise like waves in the ocean of stayi- bhava.

Unrealized pseudo self-styled "ritviks" expose their wilful ignorance through prideful preaching which itself prevents any deeper understanding. Like unapproachable wounded animals, they refuse the very treatment so obviously needed while their cries compel others attempting to compassionately provide it. God and guru must therefore arrange suitable circumstances, in one life or another, as ultimately it remains their responsibility to take us all home.

We may try to help each other, but often end up only irritating and alienating further when what's most needed is to humbly share our heartache and helplessness together. Had I the faith to make miracles, I surely would, however all I can muster up is a little sincere honesty every now and then. That will have to suffice for now, for I cannot represent one faction over another. I must worship Her as devotion in all.

I try to expose what I hear from my guru jana

When somebody says it is wrong, I try to understand it according logical arguments based on

Pranama from the shastra

Some person writes against whatever I try to expose

and usually uses words like :

You are a community of neophytes, your knowledge belongs into the dictionary of fools,

You are big khanista, and so on.

And what are you doing?

Oh, you follow but in the footsteps of that person

And you tell me

Unrealised

Pseudo self styled ritvik

Exposing wilful ignorance

And so on.

And this was

your

as you say

most needed humbly sharing of our heartache.

You say

I cannot represent one faction.

Here is not about factions, is about siddhanta.

Forgive me that I irritate you.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu remained at the house of Venkata Bhatta and constantly talked with him about Lord Krsna. In this way He was very happy.

Being a Vaisnava in the Ramanuja-sampradaya, Venkata Bhatta worshiped the Deities of Laksmi and Narayana.

Constantly associating with each other, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Venkata Bhatta gradually developed a friendly relationship. Indeed, sometimes they laughed and joked together.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu told the Bhattacarya, "Your worshipable goddess of fortune, Laksmi, always remains on the chest of Narayana, and she is certainly the most chaste woman in the creation.

"However, my Lord is Lord Sri Krsna, a cowherd boy who is engaged in tending cows. Why is it that Laksmi, being such a chaste wife, wants to associate with My Lord?

"Just to associate with Krsna, Laksmi abandoned all transcendental happiness in Vaikuntha and for a long time accepted vows and regulative principles and performed unlimited austerities."

Caitanya Mahaprabhu then said, " 'O Lord, we do not know how the serpent Kaliya attained such an opportunity to be touched by the dust of Your lotus feet. Even the goddess of fortune, for this end, performed austerities for centuries, giving up all other desires and observing austere vows. Indeed, we do not know how the serpent Kaliya got such an opportunity."' SB10.16.36

Venkata Bhatta then said, "Lord Krsna and Lord Narayana are one and the same, but the pastimes of Krsna are more relishable due to their sportive nature.

"Since Krsna and Narayana are the same personality, Laksmi's association with Krsna does not break her vow of chastity. Rather, it was in great fun that the goddess of fortune wanted to associate with Lord Krsna."

" 'According to transcendental realization, there is no difference between the forms of Narayana and Krsna. Yet in Krsna there is a special transcendental attraction due to the CONJUGAL MELLOW, and consequently He surpasses Narayana. This is the conclusion of transcendental mellows.'

Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (1.2.59).

and he emphasized the conjugal love in the mood of the gopis.

Some of His explanations:

"By following in the footsteps of the inhabitants of the planet known as Vrajaloka or Goloka Vrndavana one can attain the shelter of the lotus feet of Sri Krsna. However, in that planet the inhabitants do not know that Lord Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

"There someone may accept Him as a son and sometimes bind Him to a grinding mortar. Someone else may accept Him as an intimate friend and, attaining victory over Him, playfully mount His shoulders.

"The inhabitants of Vrajabhumi know Krsna as the son of Maharaja Nanda, the King of Vrajabhumi, and they consider that they can have no relationship with the Lord in the rasa of opulence.

"One who worships the Lord by following in the footsteps of the inhabitants of Vrajabhumi attains Him in the transcendental planet of Vraja, where He is known as the son of Maharaja Nanda."

"The authorities in the Vedic literature who are known as the sruti-gana worshiped Lord Krsna in the ecstasy of the gopis and followed in their footsteps.
