We are doing a project on the nature of god in Hinduism and we therfore would like to hear a Hindu opinion or view of how the religion is followed. We would like to know if Hindus believe that their God is transcendent. We understand this to mean that God is not limited by the matter of the universe and we would like to know if this is true about the gods in Hinduism.

Jai Sriman Narayana:

In hinduism there is only ONE God and he is supreme. The Gods that you usually hear people talking about are demi-gods who again serve the ONE SUPREME GOD by doing their assigned tasks.

God is Satya (unchanging, truth), Gnana (Knowledge, no ignorance, no dependency on anyone/anything), Ananta (All pervading, inside everything, outside everthing), Ananda (Bliss, does not get bored, always happy) swaroopa (identity, form). His form is indeed transcedental that is incomprehensible through material senses. Ofcourse, you can see supreme God in any form that you feel comfortable because the Gnana (knowledge) and Bhakti (Devotion) behind that is more important.

Religion is practised by following Karma, Gnana and Bhakti yoga which ultimately leads to God realization.
