Hari OM

Man kind is engaged in the service of his own ego from time immemorial, even though he may say I am in the service of "My family, My country, My religion, My Language,...." the basic common factor for everything is "MY" i.e., his ego.

Ego is always possessive, never satisified and gives more pain than pleasure, the individual soul employs all his assests like, Wealth, health, physical body, mind and intelligence to satisify his mistress "ego" so that she may give him ever lasting happiness , but fails life after life after life, and gets into an even more bondage and slave of ego.

To break away from this bondage is liberation, for which Gita shows three ways

1) To withdraw the feeling of mine, so you just serve for "a country, a religion, a family, a language..."

2) To realize everything is His and then do your service for Him by serving , "His country, His religion, His family, His langauage....."

3) To realize whatever exists is just a play of Gunas and ignore everything and enjoy the self.

All the three groups understand the meaning of sacrifice and are ever liberated, while 2) (serving Krishna) is the easisest and safest way to liberation.

However others (almost 99% of population) who cook food (do actions) to nourish their own body ( serve their own ego) eat only sin and live in vain (held in bondage always)

So you try to serve Him by serving His family (i.e., the Universe which is called Vasudeva Kudumbam) and He is very much unlike Ego, never possessive, easily satisified and gives unending bliss. Even your intention of serving Him can save you from the terrible chain of birth and death.
