Guest guest
the real hindus were the people living on the other side of the sindu river that were called "shindu's" because of the moghul invaders inability to correcty pronounce sindu. eventually they dropped the s and it became hindu's. this conveniently wrapped up all the worshippers of the 33 million demigods into a slang term for those who were gonna be killed. somehow or other it was adopted by "indians" (another term invented by the brittish, for the people of Bharata). and became a part of the "everything goes" philosophy of hinduism today. hope this helps. The native americans in America are also called Indians, a title which has stuck. I'm sure you know the story of Christopher Columbus, and how he was trying to sail to India, when he accidentally discovered the New World and it's native dwellers. Anyway, as to Hindus, the best term would be followers of Sanatana Dharma, for those who follow vedic traditions. But then most people have no idea what that means in the west, so the need to clarify that is the sanskrit name of the 'Hindu' religion. Hindu itself is a broad term. That's why some will just choose to identify themselves by their sect: like I am a Saivite, or I am a Vaishnava, or whatever. Others will use the broader term Hindu. It's a matter of preference. No need to get hung up on labels. In truth, we are Souls, who have no labels, no nationalities, no gender.
Guest guest
Lord shiva, vishnu, durga, ganesha all appear in vedas as devathas. When vedas discuss about the brahmam, the ultimate truth, it one by one says not this not this.
