Guest guest
Kural’s immortality and universality are unquestionable. Its ethics and values are applicable to all religions, all countries and at all times. That is why Mahatma Gandhi said; “Thiruvalluvar gave us the famous Thirukkural, holy maxims described by Tamilians as the Tamil Veda and by M. Ariel as one of the highest and purest expressions of human thought”.
Guest guest
So far only Tamil has been officially accorded status of classical language. But today Sanskrit has joined the elite club. Congrats to Sanskrit!! With the inclusion of Sanskrit to the list, it joins the elite club of languages like Latin, Greek and Tamil. Indian government has also relaxed the selection criteria. Now, not only languages with written scriptures and grammar older that 2000 yrs old, but also languages like Kannada whose grammar and written form was documented 1500 yrs ago are eligible. Point to be noted is that only ancient Tamil and Sanskrit are Indian languages that have no linguistic relationship with any other known languages. Unlike Sanskrit, which unfortunately has no literary advancement now and is almost dead except in holy scriptures and rituals, Tamil is still a very dynamic language.
