I'm doing a project for a Comparative Religions class and I've got a few questions.

In regards to Hindu belief, what happens to you after you die? Is there an afterlife? Are there determining factors in what happens to you when you die?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When one dies the the mind, intelligence and ego accompany the soul and is taken out of the body by the agents or servants of Yamaraja The god of Death.

These agents Yamaduttas come and pull the soul by subtile ropes bound and biten by dogs called rurus the soul is taken for judgement.By Yamaraja who has watched all beings for all times and has recorded all actions.

Death occurs when the next body of the soul has been decided apon all ones good and bad actions are reviewed the mentality that the soul has engaged in is rewarded in the form of a new body.

If that soul has partaken in action within a human form which was better suited for an anmimal hog birth then the soul is taken for training for birth as a hog where the soul learns is forced to eat stool,

When this soul decides at some point that the taste of some stools are better than others it is ready to take birth as a hog and does so.

This certianly is discussing so we should act according to dharama and not live as hog and dogs do but use our priceless time to remenber and glorify the actions of the Lord and His pure devottees

If one becomes a devottee and lives a life under the instruction of Guru and Krishna and remenbers them then one is not taken by Yamaraja at the time of death .

That forgente soul at once takes birth in direct assoication with Krishna eternally and returns to this material world
