According to Stephen Hawking his attendance at a 1981 Vatican Conference on cosmology reawakened his interest in the origin and fate of the universe. It was a combination of his own identification with Galileo and the pope's remarks about the big bang:

"He [the pope] told us that it was all right to study the evolution of the universe after the big bang, but we should not inquire into the big bang itself because that was the moment of Creation and therefore the work of God. I was glad then that he did not know the subject of the talk I had just given at the conference - the possibility

that space-time was finite but had no boundary, which means that it had no beginning, no moment of Creation. I had no desire to share the fate of Galileo, with whom I feel a strong sense of identity, partly because of

the coincidence of having been born exactly 300 years after his death!"

This quote from Brief History of Time (p. 116)

GALILEO CASE:

In 1614, Galileo felt compelled to answer the charge that this "new science" was contrary to certain Scripture passages. His opponents pointed to Bible passages with statements like, "And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed . . ." (Josh. 10:13). This is not an isolated occurrence. Psalms 93 and 104 and Ecclesiastes 1:5 also speak of celestial motion and terrestrial stability. A literalistic reading of these passages would have to be abandoned if the heliocentric theory were adopted. Yet this should not have posed a problem. As Augustine put it, "One does not read in the Gospel that the Lord said: ‘I will send you the Paraclete who will teach you about the course of the sun and moon.’ For he willed to make them Christians, not mathematicians." Following Augustine’s example, Galileo urged caution in not interpreting these biblical statements too literally

Galileo came to Rome to see Pope Paul V (1605-1621). The pope, weary of controversy, turned the matter over to the Holy Office, which issued a condemnation of Galileo’s theory in 1616.Galileo was imprisoned, tortured and apologized in end.

MODERN DAY FIGHT WITH DARWIN:

You thought that vatican stopped war with darwin? No.That war still continues. After their children being taught in schools of darwin, angry xians created a theory called as "scientific creationism" and started teaching it in schools. It was outlawed by arkansas court since it wasnt science.Angry letters fly all over about "atheist courts".

You can read about "scientific creativism" in http://emporium.turnpike.net/C/cs/index.htm.It says all scientists are wrong and calls them as jokers. It "proves scientifically" how xianity is the truest religion.

"before 6000 years man did not exist. All those men who lived before that day were "humanoids" it seems"

According to judeo-chrixan tradition, before that man had no soul. Only after god created Adam did man have a soul!

That means before adam were there soulless humans?

Precisely. So before 6000 years ago man had no soul! No access to heaven. In the hebrew calendar year one is when Adam was created, about 5800 years ago.

dont talk without proof. That means you are lying. My friends will talk 1000 things.can i post it all?HUmaniod theory was given by overzealous christians to make school children not to mock bible, since it lied about creation. And to decieve themselves too,its all exercise in futile.

creationism

James Ussher (1581-1656), Archbishop of Armagh, Primate of All Ireland, and Vice-Chancellor of Trinity College in Dublin was highly regarded in his day as a churchman and as a scholar. Of his many works, his treatise on chronology has proved the most durable. Based on an intricate correlation of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean histories and Holy writ, it was incorporated into an authorized version of the Bible printed in 1701, and thus came to be regarded with almost as much unquestioning reverence as the Bible itself. Having established the first day of creation as Sunday 23 October 4004 BC, by the arguments set forth in the passage below, Ussher calculated the dates of other biblical events, concluding, for example, that Adam and Eve were driven from Paradise on Monday 10 November 4004 BC, and that the ark touched down on Mt Ararat on 5 May 2348 BC `on a Wednesday'.

In picking a date for the supposed Aryan invasion of India by a supposed race of people, Rajaram writes: "Muller was strongly influenced by a current Christian belief that the creation of the world had taken place at 9:00 a.m. on 23 October 4004 BC. Assuming the date of 4004 BC for the creation of the world, as Muller did, leads to 2448 BC for the biblical Flood. If another thousand years is allowed for the waters to subside and for the soil to get dry enough for the Aryans to begin their invasion of India, we are left at around 1400 BC. Adding another two hundred years before they could begin composing the Rig Veda brings us right to Muller's date of 1200.BC...he used a ghost story from Somadeva's Kathasaritasagara to support this date

I asked proof from bible that before men humanoids existed. Now you have come up with something else.Going back 6000 years from date of bible is easy. That cannot be a scientific proof. That is his opinion.Scientists have calculated that dinousars lived before 6.5 million years. They have fossil proof with them.So all these guys must be joking.

There is a difference between scientific proof and spinning yarns.

Just telling you what my jewish friend told me. Ask your local christian priest or jewish rabbi.

You cannot bring a discussion with such foolish notion as "My friend said this and that". Even if your friend is a priest or a rabbi, it makes no difference.

Each societies has their own smart people who make all sort of assumptions. Some agree and some do not. It is foolishness to bring all those into a forum and expect others to accept it blindly.

And, some people could even tell lies by stating "My friend said so" kind of excuse, simply to hide facts that he cannot prove what he had said.

Thanks for the counseling about foolish expectations which were expected of no one and about foolish lies and excuses which were not made. I commend this remarkably accurate interpretation of the thread.

Now, back to the topic at hand. Might you have any information about the church and science? I have only hearsay.
