However, the idea that man did not evolve from ape is hard to grasp. Aren't they genetically too similar to not be related or that man evolved from ape?

And isn't his book approaching the history of man from just as biased a perspective as Christian fundamentalists, etc.? It's true that science is somewhat of a dogmatic practice these days and it runs under a certain set of assumptions, but science in general doesn't assume anything like divine intervention to be the case.

However, I do believe in the stories of the Mahabharata, which is odd considering I don't actually believe certain facets of the theory that Michael Cremo proposes. Ideas such as man and dinosaur have lived side by side, or that man did not evolve from ape is hard to reason through.

Isn't it possible that the dinosaurs, apes, etc. existed a longer time ago than is thought, and that human evolution took place a longer time ago? Couldn't it be, in a sense, that once human evolution took place, civilizations began to go through endless cycles? That both scientific dogma and hindu ideas can be true at once?

preceded the modern man. And even before neanderthals, was the ape. In essence, evolution follows the path of ape to neanderthal to modern man. That is the common scientific conception right? However, it seems that new evidence came to light suggesting that neanderthals DIDN'T evolve into modern man, which I think supports the vedic view in a sense.

Here's the article that discusses it: http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science/01/26/neanderthals.ancestor.reut/index.html
