Tsunami questions

Hare Krishna

I saw an article on the bbc news website asking people for their religious views on how disasters like the tsunami can be explained.

Can anyone give me a vedic viewpoint of how to understand the reasons why such tragedies occcur please?

Everything happens for a reason and not by accident, as not even a blade of grass can move without the will of God, but sometimes the reason behind tragedies is hard for many people to understand.

Many thanks.

the main fact is that for modern statistic every two seconds a human in this world dies..

so in the day of tsunami did not happened anything strange..

one dead every second means 30 in a minute, 180 in an hour, 4324 in a day.. This for 356 days every year

We simply have to die because we went in this world to forget god.. god is eternity, consciousness and bliss.. if we forget god it remains the opposite of these terms, so death, ignorance and pain

everyday is a tsunami

Hare Krishna.

It's no surprise according to the Vedic scriptures. This is Kali Yuga, the age of irreligion and ignorance.

Because people are irreligious and very sinfull, people will suffer, more and more.

As stated in the Srimad Bhagavatam:

Religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, tolerance, mercy, duration of life, physical strength and memory will all diminish day by day.

Man is killing millions of animals every day, destroying forests, and polluting the world. Thus mother nature is dying, and it takes revenge in the form of Earthquakes, floods, driughts, severe snow etc..

It's all accurately predicted in the Srimad Bhagavatam. In the future the life span of man will dimish to 50 years. There will be no sun light and thus no vegetation. Man will eat his own children. That's the future ahead of us.

It's not that just the Hindus in India who suffer, as many ignorant Christians seem to think. Everyone in the world will suffer, and in the near future, the West will suffer more than the Hindus in India. Guess how? Nuclear terrorism along with earth quakes, floods etc..

Animal killing and child killing (abortion) will not go un-noticed by God. People will suffer in millions.

So why do the people in the land of Lord Krishna, the Hindus suffer? Most Hindu have become totally ignorant of the Vedic scriptures and thus irreligious. Thus they suffer. The Hindus in India are following western life styles of eating meat, sex before marriage etc.. This also aids the Hindus to sin more and thus suffer.

The muslims will also suffer due to animal killing, in particular cow killing.

Everyone will suffer, those who are krishna conscious will also face the earthquakes, floods, and haricanes. But they will be liberated after this life and will go to the spiritual world and never come back to this material world. The others will come back life after life to suffer the pangs of material in kali Yuga for the next 427,000 years. Then Lord Krishna will appear as Lord Kalki and kill million of demons and thus liberate them too.

Haribol,

Actually, we are always suffering, albeit on different levels, if only for the ever present threefold miseries of birth&death, old age and disease.

Personally I don't really see it as revenge per se (even though mother earth is indeed suffering greatly these days) but rather as a karmic event, a reaction to previous action. Because it occured on such a large scale, the suffering and the attention to it logically gets magnified and seems unimaginable, but to a single man who was swept from his home because an envious man said he was a terrorist, who is unlawfully held by the U.S. government in Guantanamo Bay for years, and being subjected to a variety of torturous schemes, not knowing where he is or when or if he will ever get out, his suffering may be even greater. But it receives no attention because it happens on such a small scale. So that makes this suffering very relative.

The point is that we initially chose to be here, because of our desire to dominate, to play God, and God in His causeless mercy has granted us our wish. So due to our forgetful nature, we cannot anymore understand the reason behind our suffering. If God was to interfere with i.e. preventing the tsunami from occuring, it would mean he would interfere with somebody's free will since there were certain actions that eventually led up to this disaster.God wants you to find your love for Him by your own desire. So ultimately,I believe the reason for our suffering here on this material plane is because we try to be happy without God, because of our forgetfulness of Him. To think we can achieve lasting happiness on this finite plane, especially now in the age of Kali out of all yuga's, amongst all of mankind, is in my opinion maya. All is part of God's transcendental play, and as material nature is finite, our ability to comprehend these plays by the limited means of the gross material body is too. Even Siva and Brahma are perplexed in their attempts to understand Krsna, so who are we to think we can?

Hope this helps

it is karma, the word karma means action, do you perform good action or bad action, but it isn't just action of body, no no no, it is action of mind too, are your thoughts pure, are they transcendental, or are they about power, money, sex etc., the majority of people in this world are not truly transcendental, even though people say they are religious or spiritual or whatever, huge disasters prove that this is not the case, the outside world reflects the inside world, when the interior of humankind is pure then the world will be pure, then all exterior will be pure and peaceful, but things have to be changed from the inside out, not outside in, politics is useless, Srila Prabhupada was told to give up politics for Krishna consciousness by his guru, he was told that politics is just exterior nonsense and doesn't focus on the problem, the Dalai Lama understands this too and that is why he doesn't fight back to China, he understands that political strategy only causes more trouble and more karma because it focuses on political power, so he travels the world, and appoints many teachers too, trying to transform people's hearts, this kind of internal transformation is what the world needs, love for God and compassion for others, not caring too much about money, power, sex etc. this was Srila Prabhupada's purpose, but instead people are fighting about right politics and wrong politics, right religion and wrong religion, my god is better than yours, all this nonsense is killing everything, this is all political power and it is impure behaviour...

to continue...for all the tragedies to stop the majority of the world would have to unite in peace, sharing resources of food, shelter, money, power, education, medical treatment and not be concerned about race, age, sex, social status, religion, political ideology, people have to want to work together, to compromise and take steps together, but people don't want that, really people just want things their own way, "no no no, this is the truth, this is the right way." that attitude is not working together for peace. what are you doing for peace in your area? do you promote equality? do you promote inter-religious dialogue? do you promote respect and compassion? do you offer community service? do you simply smile at people on the street as they walk by? do you say a prayer every morning and night for world peace? what do you do? remember, karma means action...lets take action!

Hare Krsna

I feel you did not answer the Question as i Have Heard from my divine master Srila Goour Govinda Swami and Sastra the answer is due to Karma or Parabdha in there previous lives those souls that took birth in those areas wher that wave hit had what is called collective Karna they did similar deeds for which the either took birth there or came there on plea of good time or what ever but they suffered same sort of death due to similar Karma from Previous lives sometimes many lifetime earlier please read Nector or Devotion at the biginning Sria Rupa Goswami talks about Karma being like a Seed (Biga)

It is sometimes said What about that little boy . Yes very sad But what did that little boy do in his last life as the Bible so you sow so shal you reep

Anyway hope that satisfies your answer

i do not agree, it is so simple. Nothing can happen randomly because god is in control of everything..

if there's not karma, there's not even god

First of all everything including human body belongs to nature. If nature takes it back at the time it selects there is nothing wrong. Why we get hurt is because of our ego, that whatever is there belongs to us.
