Types of Sivarathri

Greetings,

 

I wish to know the different types of Sivarathris.

 

Matha (Monthly)

Padsha (n Tamil Month January)

Maha Sivarathri

Yoga Sivarathri

 

It was mentioned in an article that Observance of Yoga Sivarathri give 3 million times the benefit  that one can obtain from any Maha Sivarathri day.

 

How this is explained in any sacred books?

 

Could I have some information please?.

Dear MT

 

there is no shiva rathri by name known as Yoga shivarathri.

 

Masa means month and Masa Shivarathri means monthly shivarathri which falls on every chaturdashi (14th day) of krishna paksha (the day before new moon (Amavasya)) 

 

Pushya is the name of month which comes in January, this months importance is of Makara Sankranti (Sun enters into the zodiac of Makara (Capricorn) also known as Pongal in tamil. 

 

As shivaratri comes every month Sankranti also comes in every month.

 

When Masa Shivarathri falls in the month of Maagh Masa (Feb or Mar) of Hindu calendar it is known as Maha Shivaratri.
