Guest guest
There's a popular Quizz TV show in Australia. It's the usual stuff with 3 hopefuls pushing buttons to be the first with a correct answer on just about any subject. Plus or minus 5 points for a right or wrong answer. Well, each night the tension was BUILDING, as an intense and charismatic young man swept all competitors away to win an ever-increasing TREASURE TROVE. So quickly, he's reached the night where he could win everything BUT on the night (or session) before, dark hints had mysteriously been given to him by production staff that his chances were remote and to make the most of his winnings thus far......... He faces off against his 2 new contenders, smiles and handshakes all round. The lady in the centre chair sounds a real chatterbox as she tells everyone about herself in the intro's. On your marks, the race is on as the other new contestant, the bearded man, streaks ahead increasing his lead between each commercial break. The final phase of the show has a mad 30 seconds where desperate laggards can catch leaders with quick-fire questions and answers. Thundering into this sprint straight, the bearded man has 85 points, the defending champion 60 and the chatterbox has 25 (clearly the rank outsider - given a maximum 50 points is up for grabs). The starting gun sounds and the chatterbox presses her button before each question finishes giving wrong answers to 8 of the 10 questions asked. The final buzzer sounds and the bearded man smiles modestly as he is declared (an unpopular) winner. What's wrong with any of that, I can hear you asking? Well many in the studio audience, arguably friends and family of the defending champion , wrote off furious emails to the TV station claiming, as eyewitnesses, the following: 1. The possibility of a TV station conspiracy to minimise its prizemoney liability 2. The fact that the chatterbox had stood up and given the bearded one enraptured applause. 3. The rival TV station which, last night, made a great fuss about all of this was somehow able to access film of the losing champion's activities during the commercial breaks. He sat - stoney faced - turned away from the other contestants - eyes closed, deep in MEDITATION !! The rival station had pursued the chatterbox all that day seeking an interview and discussion of her tactics, but she dodged and weaved and was uncontactable. Management of the Quiz Show declared the outcome will stand, no further correspondence blah blah blah. The now self-effacing meditator declared if he ever went on another Quiz Show, he would forever indulge in the Safety of humouring his competitors as a prelude to his MEDITATION practice. As the fury and controversy continues to rage here in Australia, I hope will now add this precaution to his otherwise comprehensive list of " Safeties " when Meditation is to be done publicly.
