Worthington / Loma Linda

Hi all,

 

How do you all feel about Worthington / Loma Linda products?? I know that the

veggie links (hot dogs) are fantastic!, but what about any of thier other

products such as skallops, chikin, etc... I haven't tried any of them and was

wondering what you all thought. Thanks in advance.

Judy is the Worthington expert.

I have tried several and my favorites are The ground round, Stake, fri chik and

there's a salisbury patty in the can. Delicious. The skallops. And links are

good but the others I just love.

If you are looking for robust flavors in a tamale. Loma Linda products are

for you. Freezer section of Mexican Mercado's and uptown groceries.

I like most of their products. I bought a case of the links

and a case of vege-burger from Amazon. Still working on it.

Worthington and Loma Linda Foods merged together several years ago and carry

really yummy meat substitutes. They are the originators of Meat Substitutes

and have been around since the 1950's. I grew up eating these products and

What Donna is calling the ground round, is either the Vegetarian Burger or the

Tender Rounds(these come in " meatball " shapes for using in spagetti , to make

Italian Meatball subs or to heat and eat right out of the can). Both are

delicious products, but used differently.

 

Fri-Chik and Fried " Chicken " I use this product and Worthington Vegeburger the

most as it is the most versatile for lots of soups, casseroles, pizza, fried

rice, chili, spagetti, alfredo, homemade vegeburgers, sandwich spreads and much

more.

 

Redi-Burger - You cut off both ends of the can and press it out with one of the

lids and slice in to patties to fry up or bake. I also rake it out of can with

a fork, so it is crumbly and add it to my vegetarian Meatloaf recipe.

 

 

Vega-links and Big Franks, and Linketts - all delicious vegetarian hot dogs

each with their own uniquic flavor. The Big Franks are the more heavily

seasoned.

 

Little Links and Saucettes - I heat in the broth in a pot and serve with grits

for breakfast. You can drain them and use them in place of " sausage " in any of

your recipes or brown them up with some diced potatoes, onions and green pepper.

 

Vegetarian Burger(I prefer the Worthington one better than the Loma Linda

brand, but there isn't much difference and Amazon has the Loma Linda Burger on

sale for a great price right now, so I ordered a couple of cases),

 

Tender Bits and Scallops are very good. They come in a thin broth in the cans,

so are already wet. No need for an egg wash step, Just dip them out of the

can and into bowl of Italian breadcrumbs mixed with some Ms. Dash and garlic

salt, covering them completely. Then fry in some peanut oil. When brown, lay

them on a sheet pan covered in paper towels. Serve with tarter sauce or sweet

and cocktail sauce.

 

The Swiss Stakes are perfect to heat in the own gravy, right out of the can. I

usually just dump them in a large cereal bowl, cover with a saucer and microwave

about 3 minutes. I dice them up to add to spagetti sauce sometimes, or dice up

and add gravy and all to make stroganoff.

 

The Choplets, which is a Gluten patty, I dice up and brown in oil(season with

Lawry's seasoned salt after it browns), remove to a bowl, add a nice mixture of

diced up fresh veggies(green peppers, carrots, onions, cabbage, broccoli,

celery, etc) and stir fry. Add some garlic salt and Bragg's Liquid amino's to

taste. Add back in your Choplets. Take the broth from the choplet can and

add a Tbsp of cornstarch and stir until smooth, add water up to the 1 c. line

and about a Tbsp of Braggs Liquid Aminos. Stir into the veggie mixture,, stir

well and cook until sauce thickens, about 2 minutes. Serve of hot basmati

rice.

My favorites are the Big Franks (which taste much like the hot dogs I

grew up on, just not as greasy!) and the skallops, which I prepare

like Judy does. Remeber that these products freeze well after you use

what you need out of the can.

I have yet to try any of these products (live alone and a case of anything is

just too much especially if it's something I decide that I don't like). Just

found this site.... http://www.darralsnaturalfoods.com/FlatRate.htm $49.95 for

ten cans (mix and match) shipping included. Not too crazy about the can idea,

but after all the rave reviews over the years, going to cave and give it a shot.

Thanks for sharing this link....I've been wanting to try these products but

haven't wanted to buy a whole case of something then find I don't care for it,

so this sampler idea is great!

didn't want to buy too much until I try it.

 

On another note, the Fantastic Foods grain burger mix is really good and I can't

find it anywhere locally. I usually make, freeze and use as needed.
