Guest guest Report post Posted May 16, 2010 This is such a common reaction from many non-vegetarians, I wish they would try more of our recipes, use our cookbooks, etc. The funny thing is all the cookbooks they use have plenty of vegetarian recipes in them. One of my good friends was very anti-vegetarian until her 13 year old came home from school and said, I have 2 veg friends and I'm going to be one too, and she has been veg for 2 yrs now. My friend has a much better outlook and eats veg burgers with her and will try her casseroles, etc. It's really wonderful, her daughter uses recipes from the group, I gave her a few cookbooks and I help her if she has any questions. Guest guest Report post Posted May 16, 2010 That's great that your friend is trying (amazing how our kids can change us, in ways we never expected!). I mentioned to him again that I'd like to try a few new veg recipes (more often) to help us eat healthier (and lose a few) and he was more agreeable ( " OK " without any negative body language! that's progress as far as I'm concerned!). It's the mindset that meat has to be the center of the meal, then you add sides (and it's the way I was brought up.. " what are we having for diner? " XXXX meat item " , then let's see, what goes with it? rice, a veggie?). I'm just going to make something for dinner and if he's hungry enough he'll try it (gee, might even like it). I have tons of veggie cookbooks (I LOVE cookbooks!) but also most cookbooks have recipes that don't include meat. And I don't expect that he will totally convert but cutting back on meat and eating more veg meals will definitely be an improvement. It's not that he's anti-vegetarian, he just doesn't want to totally give up meat.....his choice.
