Taurine may have first been isolated from ox BILE,

and hence it's name, from taurus, Latin for bull.

 

However, it is not derived from their privates:

Certainly, most of the taurine found in supplements

and added to food these days is likely synthesized.

Note, they also mention it exists also in " plants,

fungi, and some bacterial species, but in far less

abundance. "

 

The Wikipedia entry for Red Bull makes no mention

of the urban myth, but does contain a lot of

interesting history, safety information, etc.:
