Carefully monitor the temperature of the herbal oil to make certain it does not exceed 160 degrees. Comfrey contains allantoin and higher temperatures destroy it. After 3 hours, strain the mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth. To 3 1/2 oz. of comfrey oil add 1/2 sq. in. of beeswax. Place the mixture in the double boiler and heat gently until the beeswax has melted. Pour the ointment into a dark colored jar. Store in a cool dark place. The ointment will keep for up to one year. I'm feeling much higher energy then ever. I've been a vegan for 2.5 years and have not had problems with acne since. However, years ago, as a teen eating SAD, I had horrible acne and still have scars. I'm always hesitant about trying anything on my face. Yesterday I was reading that coconut oil (eating and applying) can help with scars. I've tried aloe in the past with no results. Has anyone had luck diminishing scars with diet and/or topical applications? It's hard to know the truth from surfing the net because so many people are just out to make a buck. I really enjoy this group and I've appreciated all of the insight from those raw food pros here!! Deanna

Guest guest
Not to start a controversy, but why would you want to destroy the allatonin in comfrey ointment?? Alatonin is a cell prolifererant and one of the reasons comfrey ointment works on boo-boos. Since it is in ointment form you don't need to worry about the internal use controversy. Even for internal use -- to get the amount of possibly harmful properties the mice in the studies were given to cause liver damage you'd have to either inject 6 pounds of comfrey under your skin or drink 40 cups of comfrey tea for 40some years. People have been drinking comfrey tea for thousands of years without ill effects. There have been studies since the mice studies that refute the notion that comfrey is dangeruous for internal use. Maybe if you have a liver condition already you might need to worry, but the comfrey thing is SO overhyped. just my .02 JennMarie = ) >>9:58 AM [Raw Food] Comfrey Ointment Comfrey Ointment 8 oz. of dried comfrey leaves 1 pint of vegetable oil 1/2 sq. in. of beeswax Place the comfrey and the vegetable oil in a double boiler and simmer gently for 3 hours.
