Guest guest Posted June 4, 2002 Report Share Posted June 4, 2002 * Exported from MasterCook * Maple Pears Recipe By : Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 tablespoon butter or ghee -- (1 to 2) 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup 1 large Asian Pear or tart apple -- (about 3/4 pound), cored but not peeled, cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices 2 tablespoons hazelnuts -- toasted and finely chopped Asian pears are juicy sweet when raw and make delicious side dishes when cooked. Here Asian pear slices are tossed in butter and maple syrup, then coated with crushed hazelnuts. A simple yet pleasant side dish or dessert. Melt butter in a medium skillet. Lower heat slightly, add maple syrup and cook until bubbly. Add pear. Cook for 1 or 2 minutes, or until the sauce caramelizes and forms a glaze around the fruit, turning gently but often. Add hazelnuts and mix well. Serve immediately. Yield 4 small servings SERVING SUGGESTIONS: For a main meal, team with a grain dish such as Red Rice with Five Vegetables (page 171) and Scrambled Tempeh (page 131).
