Personally, I'd use real rice in a rice cooker, as it's just as easy as instant, though it takes a bit longer. I also would prefer to use fresh garlic and have a quickchop to cut it up quickly. I think they're great for tossing into food, whole or crushed up, to boost flavor and nutritional content. In fact, if you had a veggie hater in your family, you could powder them and have some invisible veggies pretty easily. My kids like veggies, but again, they're easy, so I'd use them. But I could go through one of those big containers every few days, if I had an unlimited supply.
