Preheat oven to 450F. Snap the tough ends off the asparagus then cut or break into 1-inch pieces. Place in a large bowl. Toast the sesame seeds in a dry skillet over high heat, stirring constantly, until they begin to pop. Transfer to a small bowl and add the soy sauce, vinegar, toasted sesame oil, and garlic. Stir to mix, then pour over the asparagus. Toss to coat evenly. Spread in a single layer in a 9- x 13-inch baking dish. Bake in preheated oven until tender, about 15 minutes.
