Hi all,

The only organic grapes sold in Sarasota, FL are imported from South Africa,

but the USDA has told me that imported produce may be irradiated, fumigated,

steamed and/or dipped in hot water. They can't specify how any particular

import has been treated. In fact, there are very very few organic fruits

available in Sarasota, FL that have been grown in the United States. What can

we

do about this? (Besides move to California, that is, which I am considering

more and more every day, because they have more than 20 raw restaurants

there.) My diet is extremely limited, because I find so few organic items

grown

in the US.

And I'm not about to pay to have organic produce shipped to me from

California, either. That's too expensive and not convenient for recipe making:

" Oh,

I can't make this recipe. I have to wait two weeks for the produce to be

shipped here from California " or pay through the nose for overnight shipping.

Judy in Sarasota.

instead. Like wine, grape juice is full of protective pigments known as

flavonoids. Unlike wine, it doesn't . . . _Read more_
