My girlfriend said that Prevention magazine recently said that they have

found some problems with flaxseeds. She couldn't remember what the issue

was. Have you heard anything?

Totally amazingly, back in the 2000's of the messages, I ran across a

whole alarm about flax yesterday. I followed links and saw that the

posters had read about half of each article, i.e., not the whole

thing, and then gone off and gotten upset.

I have created a Flax Seed/Flax Oil folder in the Nutriton section of

the files with information that I found researching the alarmist postings.

 

My findings are as follows: if you eat twice your weight in flax seed

daily, that could be a problem.

 

Flax seed is good for providing fiber and EFAs.

Flax oil is a good source of EFAs

Flax seed and flax oil should not be cooked, as cooking (as in

" frying " or " baking " , BUT NOT dehydrating at temperatures of

145degrees or lower) destroys the EFAs (you would still get the

benefits of fiber from cooked flaxseed- but not from the oil, duh)

 

Flax seed is a good binder, either whole or ground.

 

Flax seed is a good thickener in shakes.

 

Whole flax seed is good to use if you have issues with constipation.

 

Please go to the files and read the articles on flax seed/flax oil.

Then make your own conclusions.

Flax oil is okay if all you are looking for is the EFAs. It is pretty

difficult to get too much flax oil... I mean, are you going to drink

it? Most people won't be able to figure out how to use more than 4 T a

day, if that much...

the trick is to keep flax oil in the refrigerator.

Purchase whole flax seed and do not grind it up until you are ready to

use it.

If you must purchase ground flax seed, store it in the freezer.
