Guest guest
Hi All I dont have a dehydrator...can I prepare my crackers and bergers in a low tem oven...on minimum heat? or maybe just stick in a light bulb? I noticed some of you (jerushy1944) doing a raw burger...how is that done? With Soya beans or Grains? I would be interested. I guess a Tofu Burger is not a Raw Food burger, caue the Tofu is cooked :-) I need to make some crackers, preferably not out of grain...any ideas? I just made Homus and gacoumole...that was great...plus saurkraut, home made :-) only took 1 week :-)
Guest guest
Good morning, I don't have time now to look it up but I posted the link for the burgers. I don't use any soy (except for a little Braggs now and then and I don't like to use that) and the only grain I use is sweet corn. I'll have to wait until later to answer this more in depth. The oven will overheat the food. Even at the lowest setting, it will get too warm to keep your food raw. If you will google " sun dehydrator " you will find plans on a kid's site for a DIY dehydrator that you can use on sunny days. Hope this helps! Guest guest
http://www.thefarm.org/charities/i4at/surv/soldehyd.htm This is a link for a " nearly free " dehydrator. The drawback that I see is that you would have to monitor it with a thermometer so it wouldn't get too high a temperature going. The thermometer would have to be out of the sun, too. Maybe you could put a sensor in the shady part of the dehydrator and have the thermometer where you can easily watch it? I'd ignore the suggestions to cook the food. Tofu is a highly processed food and has to be cooked because raw soy is toxic. There are several cracker recipes posted on the forum that don't use grains. You can do a search and find them. Interesting you should ask this... I have just passed by a site where a recipe mentioned " dehydrating " in a 250 degree oven. The book _Sproutman's Kitchen Garden Cookbook_ also mentions a way to dehydrate when you don't have a dehydrator (I would tend to go with whatever he says, if you have the option) Margaret
