Guest guest
Hi Taevia, When I was a kid, I never thought about being vegetarian, in fact I don't think I even knew such a lifestyle existed. But I do remember very vividly finding out about where meat really came from. It was horrifying to me that animals were killed to be eaten. I couldn't believe that the steak I ate at least once a week was from cows, those gentle, beautiful creatures I loved to watch in the fields, as we drove through the more rural areas of town. Prior to this, I had just thought meat " came from the store " . I was about 6 years old when I found out the truth. It broke my heart, but my Mom said it was necessary, so we could eat. It wasn't until I was in my early 20's that I began to think about being a vegetarian. Once I started reading up on it, it didn't take me long to eliminate meat from my diet. I lived happily this way until about my mid 30's, when I began to learn about veganism. At first, I thought it was much too extreme. I mean, after all, no animals were killed to get milk, and make cheese and butter. And chickens didn't die to give us eggs, right? Well, I found out that the dairy industry is indeed linked directly to the meat/slaughter industry. Once I learned this, there was no going back to dairy and eggs for me. I used to absolutely LOVE cheese, it was my favorite food. But I could no longer eat it, since I knew the truth. It wasn't long after turning vegan that I became interested in the raw diet. Once again, at first I thought it was way too extreme. But the more I read, the more it seemed so natural and right. I started out just adding more raw foods to my diet, and have progressed over about 4 years to about 80-90% most days. I can't imagine going back to regular cooked vegan. I have been spoiled by the wonderful taste, and the benefits of raw produce. Most cooked food no longer tastes good to me. Now, about your parrots! Wow, you really have your hands full, don't you? I adore macaws, I've always liked them ever since I was a kid. I didn't start learning alot about birds, though, until I met my husband 2 years ago. Now I'm as " bird-crazy " as he is And I also really like African greys. Does yours talk alot? I have heard that they have the largest vocabulary capability of all of the parrots. I would love to get a macaw and an African grey someday. But we need to bigger place to live before I'd even consider getting any more birds. It's nice to have a fellow bird-person in the group Have a great day, Christine
