What is the best way to open a coconut? My mon used to use a nail and

hammer to poke holes in it and drain the water out, then bash it open

with the hammer. A book I have says to use a cleaver, which I do not

have and likely do not have the strength for that method anyway. Any

suggestions?

Thanks,

Diana

I use a cleaver but it's not really the " flat " blade part of the

cleaver that does the penetration of the husk, I swing the cleaver

and use the bottom " corner " of the blade to do four penetrations,

making a four sided box. I then use the front part of the blade to

pry the top off leaving a square hole on top.

You can then pour the water out and have a big enough hole to put a

big spoon inside to scrape out the meat.
