Hello, everyone!

Hope you are all enjoying a safe and happy holiday. I almost never

post to the group but this time I have a question I can't find an

answer to....can you eat chestnuts raw?

I saw a beautiful bushel on sale at my local market and decided to ask

you all before I go ahead and buy any. My mouth was watering, but

then again, I've only ever eaten them cooked.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me!

The owner of Bonobo's (raw) restaurant in NYC writes this:

pls tell your emailer that yes you can eat them raw.

also they are especially good since they are reputed to be alkaline forming

and not acid forming as are most nuts/seeds.

(I wrote back asking him if he had any suggestions for how to use them as an

ingredient.)
