Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am new to all of this. To this list and to the thought of a raw diet. I just bought and I read the book " The Raw Food Detox Diet " by Natalia Rose. The diet seems very interesting. In a lot of ways it seems very rich and satisfying. I have been on practically every diet out there. The thing of what attracts me to this diet is how ill I feel. I mean I can just the toxics running through my pores. The more processed I eat, the more sicker I feel. And I have known of this for years. But I have a hard time getting off the processed foods, as far as junk food is concerned, it is like a food addiction. But I did not realize that I would still feel this way even drinking milk, which I drink alot of, and cooked food. I have never thought of that. Because I am always told to make sure I have protein in every meal, etc. So I would have a piece of cooked meat at every meal. I have also been on the low carb diets out there, like Atkin's. I did Atkin's like a year or so ago. The funny thing is I am tired of meat. I don't want to eat it. And sometimes the thought makes me sick. I have only recently heard of this diet. But I bought this book after reading Woman's World magazine and instantly something told me that is why I feel so sick. That there are toxics all through my body. I also do suffer from very very severe headaches that last for days and weeks sometimes, acne and weight problems as well. I looked on a few web sites that Natalia Rose recommended. And everything just seems to tasty. Like I would really like this. I am very excited about doing this. I haven't started yet. But these are my questions. Since you have expeience and I am hoping you'll be able to help me. What about sufficient protein intake? I am told protein is important. What if my protein intake is not sufficient. And I mean you can't eat meat raw, you could get sick. I was just wondering what other raw foodist does for enough protein. 2nd question for now. Is nuts at a grocery store, are they raw? What is the process with nuts. I have never thought of it. When I looked at the raw websites, they sell nuts and they say raw nuts. So I am like what are they selling at the grocery store. I'll have questions as I further along in this journey. But I am definitely interested. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kim
Guest guest
Hi Kim.. suggest you do some more reading here, and over at RawSchool - there's plenty of info available. In a nutshell, suggest you aim for foods that are: whole, raw, ripe, fresh, organic or better. see following for some recommended reading resources. Recommend changing your lifestyle toward one of creating health - step #1 : eliminate the milk, the meat and *all* animal products. re: your protein question - it's a huge myth that we need any animal protein to survive - it's, in reality, poisionous to our bodies. We can't use animal protein as received: it has to go through lots of digestion, which we are ill-equipped to handle. on a raw food diet, the protein comes from the food: almost all foods have some protein in them. Actually, what we need are the amino acids that the proteins become. Raw foods are extremely rich in amino acids. You only need a tiny bit of nuts and seeds - maybe 1/2 cup per week, roughly. look for raw, organic nuts, if you're going to eat them. Most good health food stores/groceries have them. Look for local markets, or national chains like Whole Foods Market, or Wild Oats. I'd previously posted about how to do a search here....and here it is again: [i'd recently posted a partial post on this, and thought it might be worthwhile to help all of us become more " self-sufficient " / " self-sustaining " . I find that there's a lot of good info on the boards, and it's not always " grouped " just how we'd like it! lol! here's a method I've found to be helpful in searching for info on a topic. (and not " picking " on anyone, and would like to use a couple of " real " examples, rather than making them up.): 1. go to the board that you like, with these being my " base " : (your home boards could obviously be different) http://health.Rawschool/ http://health.Rawfood/ http://health.Rawjourney (last link corrected upon urging by eagleye Kim! thanks, Kim!) I recommend joining, and bookmarking each of the above.. 2. Once on the board, let's take RawFood for example, only because it's been around longer, and has more info on it...I recommend going back quite a ways...like on that board about 1,500 messages back (because it's an active board... ) sooo...go back to post 16000, by entering that message number in the message number " block " and clicking on the " GO " button located just to the right of the message number block...and you'll shortly be at message number 16000. 3. Now, enter the topic term that you're interested in, like " garlic " (quotes not needed), into the " search " box, and then press the " GO " button to the right of the search box...Note that there are two different insertion boxes, one for going to a particular message number, and another for entering search terms. Note that there are *ALSO* two " GO " buttons - one to the right of each insertion box. Now, if and the internet are both having a good day, you'll have a lovely listing of messages containing information about what you've searched on. If either are having a bad day, and like you don't get anything...just do it again... Once you've clicked on a message, at the bottom of *that* message will be a listing showing the replies to that message. Easiest way to navigate from here - just use one of the back buttons, either 's " previous " command, or your browser's " back " command a little more advanced: You can also change your " settings " for how you'd like to read messages -- by using both the view (3 choices - simple, summary, expanded) and the As: (msglist, thread). You'll need to play around with these settings, to actually see what each one, and various combinations does. For example - if you change the " As " to " Thread " , then you'll read all the messages that have the same subject line until that thread is over. I find this very useful after I've done a search - I get to keep reading the " thread " by just clicking on next...(it's not a " perfect " system - sometimes subject lines change, etc..etc.) Hope this helps.. all the best,] good luck on your journey. all the best, Bob http://health.RawschoolReading%20Resources/ rawfood , " kicm1tyme " <kicm1tyme> wrote: > Hi everyone, > > I am new to all of this. Guest guest
Thank you so much Bob for your help. It still scares me about sufficient protein intake, but I guess I have to unlearn everything and learn again. Any diet I have been on have brainwashed me so much on how important protein is. It is really hard to undo that. I am really having a hard time with it. I mean obviously, I am not doing something right so I guess it's just going to take time. But thank you very much and I will go on those other lists that you are talking about as well. I can't believe this. I am actually paranoid and think I am going to get more ill, like I am going to be protein deficient and get more ill. I'll get it though. Like I said, it'll take time. But nevertheless thank you and I'll follow your suggestions. Guest guest
It is impossible to get too little protein on the raw diet if you are consuming enough calories to meet your caloric needs. This is because the body needs less than 5% of its calories from protein, and most fruits and all vegetables have more than this. The body only loses around 8 grams of protein a day (from hair loss, fingernail, skin, semen, menstrual blood, and cells from the digestive process). The millions of cells in the body that die each day are recycled for their amino acids. There are plenty of articles out there describing the protein myth: http://healthfree.com/Proteinfactorfict.htm http://www.healthpromoting.com/Articles/articles/protein.htm http://www.dsiegel.com/wiwd/diet/protein.html http://chrysalisyog.homestead.com/nutsprout.html

Guest guest
Welcome, Kim! ;=) scares=fear= F - false E - evidence A - appearing R - real you may find it of more service to you to actively embrace a natural, biologically correct way of eating than letting the billions of dollars of profit-driven advertising create negative emotions for you. We do need protein, just not anywhere near what we're led to believe, and certainly *NOT* from the mainstream advertised sources. We need our protein in easily digestible form: so that the body can easily utilize the necessary amino acids. We get these amino acids/proteins from whole, fresh, ripe, organic or better, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. For example, I was eating a large cantaloupe for brunch yesterday, and it contained about 2.5 pounds of food,(I'd just recently purchased a postage/kitchen scale, and had used this for some other analysis on the meal...) only 370 calories, which had a calornutrient ratio of 86/9/5, meaning 86% carbohydrates, 9% protein, and 5% fat. I aim for a daily *minimum* of 80% carbs, and 5% *maximum* of each of the others. From this alone, I got 9 grams of body-ready, easily digestible protein, which for me, is more than 25% of what I need in a day. Even a medium (~118g) banana, has about 1.9 grams of protein. If interested in calonutrient information, look here for posts about Nutridiary, or go here to play: http://www.nutridiary.com and a very quick reminder that eating is only one of the ingredients of Health. all the best, Bob
Guest guest
Thank you for your help. I will be reading those articles and debrainwashing about protein. I have lots to learn. I have other problems as well. Talking about meeting calorie needs, sheesh. See at the rate I am going, I don't even know about meeting calories. I seem to be leaning towards starvation. LOL I barely ate all week. I don't want to eat that many fruits and veges either. I only want to eat maybe 1-2 fruits and maybe 1-2 veges. I don't want to eat more than that. It's too much. Anything more, it doesn't taste good anymore. It becomes a chore. So I don't know what I am going to do. Another problem I have is that I love dairy. That is what I mostly was eating/drinking before. I may be leading to a dangerous path here because I just won't be eating that much if at all and then I will be deficient in everything. LOL I don't know. I am going to read those articles though. I do, I still have lots to learn. But Maybe I am ahead of myself jumping into this kind of diet. I may not be ready for it. I just can't eat that much fruits and veges. But thanks for your help anyway! Guest guest
I forwarded these websites to my brother because he told me the other day that I needed to eat some meat for protein. He replied by saying that all of these websites are .com sites. Once I send him a .gov website he'll look at the information. I must add that he's a phy. ed/health teacher, so he's hard to deal with. He thinks he knows everything when it comes to health and fitness. It's so annoying! LOL!! Blessings, Brenda ---- rawfood 08/04/05 06:37:35 rawfood [Raw Food] Re: I AM NEW! PLEASE HELP! Guest guest
Hi Brenda! my experience has been that it's near impossible to convince someone who's mind is made up of anything. (and if he's only interested in official government propaganda, I'd put him in that class....) I've had much better experience discussing lifestyles, health, etc. with those who are genuinely interested. all the best, Bob rawfood , " Shawn & Brenda Titus " <nascarfans@i...> wrote: > I forwarded these websites to my brother because he told me the other day > that I needed to eat some meat for protein.
