Guest guest
thanks bob & el! if anyone else has replied, i haven't gotten there yet :-) are ya'll saying zucchini, celery, cucumber, tomato etc (i already eat all that) count as part of the rough equivalent to a head of lettuce? so a half head of lettuce plus all the other stuff would be ok, or maybe _just_ the other stuff some days? will i/we miss anything important not consuming a whole head of lettuce, or half everyday? the whole/chunk salad on the go sounds like fun, and the burritos delicious! there's so many different kinds of dates, i don't know which to try - what are everyone's favorites? always loved them when i was a kid - never had a fresh one! ------------------ my experience is about the equivalent of a head of lettuce (maybe a combination of fresh, young, organic field greens, some young spinach, maybe a little Bibb - depends what's available..)....maybe throw in a zucchini, a cucumber, and some celery..maybe a couple of tomatoes....it's not precise... eat as is, with minimal " chopping " - large pieces, or whole pieces. hope this helps. all the best, Bob _____ Every now and then, I'll just get into the car with a head of lettuce, pluck off the leaves one by one, and eat them while I'm driving. ...... As to the original question, a decent-sized head of lettuce a day seems like a good target for most people. I love my salads with tomatoes, nice moist organic heirloom summertime tomatoes, no need for any dressing ever! Best to all, Elchanan
Guest guest
Hi Debbie! I aim for the equivalent of a " head " of lettuce type greens, plus the other items. You'll might miss some wonderful nutrients carried in by the water rich lettuce! lol! I recommend aiming for mostly lettuce, and yes, toss some of the other items in...base of lettuce.... yes, I enjoyed the banana burrito the other night also... as far as dates, yes, there are many kinds...(remminder: there are some source files, storage methods, etc. over on RawSchool in the files section...) two of my favorites are Medjool and Honey (taste very sweet) - I used Medjool the other night for the Burritos...and the " sauce " was great, used very little water..put it in my " nut and seed " blender, (just because of the small quantity) and 'twas grand. I'd never had a " fresh " date until sometime after 2/15/05 myself. grand fun..what a treat..and even very nutritious! lol! have fun. and I can honestly say I've never actually had so much " fun " with foods... all the best, Bob > > thanks bob & el! if anyone else has replied, i > haven't gotten there yet :-) > > are ya'll saying zucchini, celery, cucumber, tomato > etc (i already eat all that) count as part of the > rough equivalent to a head of lettuce? so a half head > of lettuce plus all the other stuff would be ok, or > maybe _just_ the other stuff some days? will i/we > miss anything important not consuming a whole head of > lettuce, or half everyday? > > the whole/chunk salad on the go sounds like fun, and > the burritos delicious! there's so many different > kinds of dates, i don't know which to try - what are > everyone's favorites? always loved them when i was a > kid - never had a fresh one! > ------------------ > my experience is about the equivalent of a head of > lettuce (maybe a combination of fresh, young, organic > field greens, some young spinach, maybe a little Bibb > - depends what's available..)....maybe throw in a > zucchini, a cucumber, and some celery..maybe a couple > of tomatoes....it's not precise... > eat as is, with minimal " chopping " - large pieces, or > whole pieces. > hope this helps. > all the best, > Bob > _____ > Every now and then, I'll just get into the car with a > head of lettuce, pluck > off the leaves one by one, and eat them while I'm > driving. > ..... > As to the original question, a decent-sized head of > lettuce a day seems like > a good target for most people. Guest guest
and a quick " addendum " to this... ferquently, I'll add a handful or two of something called Earthbound Farm Organic Mixed Baby Greens (www.ebfarm.com), from San Juan Bautista, CA. It contains: Organic Baby lettuces (REd and Green Romaine, Red and Green Oak Leaf, Lollo Rosa, Tango), Organic Baby Spinach, Organice Red and Green Chard, Organic Mizuna, Organic Arugula, Organic Frisee, Organic Radicchio.) I find it to be a nice add to the salad. all the best, Bob ps - what made me think of it was when I grabbed some for tonight's salad. rawfood , " Bob Farrell " <rjf2@t...> wrote: > Hi Debbie! > > I aim for the equivalent of a " head " of lettuce type greens, plus the > other items.
