Speaking of cats--OT question for Nora-feeding cats raw

Hi Nora,

I posted before that both my dog and cat are raw. I

have a question about my cat. He LOVES lots of fruits

and veggies and I am wondering if I am doing him any

harm in feeding him too many fruits and veggies since

I know that cats are more true carnivores than

omnivores. In addition to the recommended amount of

the prepared raw food for his weight, I feed him

whatever of my raw fruits and veggies that he

expresses an interest in. Well, actually he does more

than express interest, he meows and jumps in my lap

and makes a nuisance of himself until I give him some!

:-) He loves melons, papayas, cherries, avocados,

zucchinis, cucumbers, and tomatos. He doesn't seem to

be putting on any of the weight that he lost (that he

needed to lose) when he first went raw, he seems very

fit. Should I trust his instincts or are these foods

not appropriate for cats?

Thanks,

Audrey

Not Nora, just offering 2 thoughts:

1. Sounds like a cool cat!!

2. You have 2 choices: trust your cat, or trust someone else. Who has been a

cat the longest? You get the picture!

Meow!!!

Elchanan

Butting in just for fun - I have four raw fed cats!

I avoid onions and plants from the nightshade family with my cats,

though I'm sure that if he enjoys the occasional tomato it should be

fine. Other than that, if you don't notice him having digestive upset

(burping, throwing up, diarrhea, etc) I'd say let him go for it! My

guys love kale and carrots.

If you're interested, these are a couple of sites that I have recently

found interesting:

www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/ <http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/>

I'm so glad to hear your cat gets to share the benefits of your

nutrition knowledge!
